It is, in fact, a reworked and expanded telling of the same story.
This Wikipedia article gives the low down.

You have been warned. In order to discuss these two works, there will be spoilers for both, and possibly a spoiler about both, if that makes any sense.

Are these really the same book?
They involve the same cast of characters, though seemingly, one starts before the other, and they follow a similar timeline. I just finished The Gem Collector, and for some reason I started in on The Intrusion of Jimmy, and damned if Jimmy Pitt isn't at the heart of both.
Now, it is a slightly different Jimmy Pitt, one is an English Baronet, and the other an American. Both have come into some money, the former along with his title.
However, he seems to be the only one who is different. All the other characters appear to be the same, though Spennie may have attained his title in one and still be waiting to do so in the other.
There is also a small difference in Sir Thomas Blunt, but it is marginal.
I am trying to find some information about these two books and haven't had much luck so far.
So, if you have read them both, what do you think? Does anyone know of any critical analysis that might explain this story in two versions.
By the way, both are available free on Amazon Kindle.
