The Passage trilogy readalong discussion

So for those of you that have read these books at least once already - I have to admit, I am a 4th timer for both - I was wondering if we could start a quiet discussion about conclusions drawn from the Passage to the Twelve.
For example - I think I am a bit ahead in the Passage than the read-along, but, did anyone notice the references to the horrors Lacey experienced in "the field" and massacre in the field in the Twelve? I love discovering little nuggets like that! Anyone else?

I hadn't thought of that. Very interesting. I know I'm not the only one to notice this- The town, Homer, Oklahoma, is where Wolgast and Amy attend the carnival. Later in the book, when Peter and the others meet up with the Expeditionary, Greer or Vorhees mentions that the Expeditionary once stumbled upon a little town called Homer, Oklahoma, that seem completely untouched by the events that the rest of the country experienced. When the Expeditionary returned to the town later, it was cleared out, like something had happened to everyone very quickly. I assume it was the people from the Homeland that you find out about in The Twelve. But how had they made it that long without being affected by the virals? It wasn't home to one of the virals like the colony in Las Vegas. I thought that it might be because it had been such a special place to Amy because of her memory of that night at the carnival and that sort of afforded it a form of protection. I don't know. Any thoughts?

Unless they were under the protection of one of the Virals like Rupert Sosa who may be holed up in Tulsa?

A whole town of survivors, over eleven hundred men, women, and children. I wasn't there, but I heard the stories. It was like stepping back a hundred years; they didn't even seem to know what the dracs were. Just going about their business, nice as you please, no lights or fencing, happy to see you but don't slam the door on your way out."

If they had a deal with Sosa wouldn't they have known about the virals and be offering sacrifices like at the Haven?

I think so. That's my theory at least.

I doubt the reference to a town that meant so much to Amy is a coincidence. I think Julie may well have hit the nail on the head - I look forward to stumbling on that reference and mulling it over within the context of the story.

Ohh I love reading these threads I have read both books a few times and you all have opened my eyes to seeing new realms to the story Thanks everyone

has anyone kept a timeline/notes since the chapters jump around? care to share?

I had a question, if anyone had a theory...any thoughts on why Sanjay Patal was so connected to Babcock - even as a child?

Maybe Sanjay is Babcock's familiar???

But I thought Jude was later in The Passage...That's why I got confused...or do they change familiars if one dies. Ack! I love it all!

I finished The Passage yesterday, for the third time I think, and started The Twelve for the second. I remember The Passage very well, but The Twelve not as much - at least so far.

Regarding The Passage - what did you think when Amy destroyed the 10 remaining vials? I was pretty bummed out about that - all of the talk about The Passage from those scenes with Lacey I thought this was what the book was leading up to and then boom... all gone.

I was too!!! It sort of makes sense, though... The theory being if they destroy the Twelve, THAT will destroy all of their viral "minions" - If you remember, at the end of Twelve, Amy destroys the others except for Carter (Wolgast was pretending to be him), and of course, herself. That leaves only Fanning - not that THAT is any small feat! I won one of the pre-releases of City of Mirrors and it all starts to make much more sense! I know what you mean though...I couldn't figure out HOW they were going to continue on with the Twelve after she did that!

Huh... turns out the tourists story wasn't just a story after all :)
