Structure of characters are similar in several science fiction novels.
Again I like the Holden character, a person who is in charge, but unfolding events keeps forcing his hand. Wants to do what is right by helping others, but has a hard time doing so. I find the other characters as self centered and just wants to do their job in which they were trained.

Well, I think you are a bit too kind to Holden! He does want to be boss, as shown how he is dismayed when his companions "vote" to do something other than what he wants! And, for him, right is what he thinks is right -- he has a really hard time hearing anyone else's opinions. True that the others (other than Crisjen) don't want to be boss and can't blame them! They have their strengths, though, they are not one-dimensional but pretty well-developed.

I work with the elderly and it is always the feisty ones who are my favorites. :)

On to Book Two of the Expanse! I read this one in the last year and thoroughly enjoyed it. Looking forward to hearing what other people thought.
