I'm impressed by some of your phrases:

threateningly gloomy cloud on a
beautifully sunny day

catastrophically cataclysmic ... catatonic

isolated isotope in the nucleus
of the human community


Good use of alliteration. It has a profound affect on the words. Makes the reader stop and think about the meaning.
