Silver For discussing the 2nd and final chapter in the Lifted Veil be aware if you have not finished the story spoilers may be posted here.

Silver I thought it was quite interesting reading this story because it was so unique for George Eliot in a few different ways yet it still held the power and mastery of her writing ability.

The first chapter I found to be particularly captivating. In part because as a lover of Gothic literature I really enjoyed the supernatural aspect of the story and had no idea where the story might be going, and was quite curious to see what happened next.

But the second chapter begin to flag a little bit for me. I think this was a very "careful what you wish for" Kind of story. It kind of reminded me of the old Monkey Pay story.

The supernatural elements of the story which where introduced in the first half, just kind of went away and didn't really seem to actually play much of a significant role in the story as a whole.

I also felt that second half of the story went on a bit too long in which I was just waiting for it to hurry up and get to it's point.

Because I had also been reading Tolstoy's the The Kreutzer Sonata aspects of the second part of the story made me think of that, because both deal with the way in which a marriage can dissolve and husband and wife be turned agasint each other.
