Given how the story started, were you surprised when you learned Joan Begley was still alive?

I was surprised. I thought it was Joan in the first barrel that was found by Luc.

I was, too, especially since I thought he was coming at her with a chainsaw.

I agree with you both; I don't know why he had the chainsaw and looked at Joan maniacally and then spared her life at that moment. It was a weird surprise.

The chainsaw was never explained was it? It was as though the author forgot all about it later.
