Speaking of Luc, should someone in the town or Maggie have contacted Julia about her father's situation? Why or why not?

I'm surprised his doctor (or whoever diagnosed his disease) didn't set up some kind of home healthcare visits for him. I would expect someone to be keeping track of him and note when he is unable to stay by himself. I assume that Luc told the doctor that he didn't want his daughter to know about it at this time.

He seemed to be suddenly getting much worse. I think Maggie should have contacted Julia because he was rapidly becoming a danger to himself.

It is imperative that Julia get involved right now while Luc has long moments of lucidity. This is a big mistake to follow his wishes right now. He's not in a position to make this call.

Yes, his lawyer needs to have set up powers of attorney for medical and for financial situations, before he is no longer able to designate someone or even to sign his name. Doctors who know anything about this disease would have a tough time treating him without a caregiver present at appointments.

Did Luc indicate (in his thoughts) whether he was diagnosed by a medical professional? I don't remember.

No mention was ever made of him seeing a medical professional.
