I've posted this one early so you have the opportunity to plan some of your reading for next month in advance. You cannot count any books towards this challenge until May 1st, but you can organize in advance.
♥This monthly challenge is a "check list" of 10 items. To check something off, all you have to do is read a book that applies to that item. Some items are book and/or author specific while others are more general and could apply to multiple books.
Example:
If the category is "read a book with vampires" - then once you've read a book with vampires, you can check it off. If it's 'read Love Hacked' then, you guessed it, you need to read that specific book to check off that item.
Levels:
'Wait Until Your Father Gets Home' - 2 books
'Because I Said So, That's Why' - 4 books
'No One Said Life is Fair'- 6 books
'Eat Your Vegetables' - 10 books
'What Part of "No" Do You Not Understand?' - 11 books or more
Checklist:
1. May the Fourth Be with You! Let's all use the force to find a book with a Star Wars reference. I may just have to reread Love Hacked since it is the obvious perfect choice for this particular item. (You don't have to choose Love Hacked, any book with a Star Wars reference will do.)
2. National Photograph Month - A photo can say a thousand words, so to fulfill this option I want you to read a book with an intriguing cover. All those times you took that second glance at a book just because of the cover... those are the books we are looking for here. Be sure to post the cover in your list for all to "oohhh" and "aaahhhh" over!
3. May Day - Also known as Beltane (or Lei Day in Hawaii). Any book that includes a Beltane celebration, is set in Spring, has paranormal critters (witches, werewolves, ghosts, vampires, etc.), has the word 'May' in the title, or has flowers on the cover of the book will cross this item off your list.
4. Cinco de Mayo - On May 5, 1862, the Mexican army defeated the French army at the Battle of Puebla. To check this off your list you need a book that celebrates the Hispanic community. Maybe it has a Latino character, maybe there is a celebration for Cinco de Mayo, maybe a Quinceanera, maybe someone just speaks a little Spanish, maybe there is a 'taco Tuesday'...
5. Friday the 13th - [The only one in 2016, so enjoy it while you can] For this one, read a book that inspires fear, includes a character with a fear or an obsession with 'lucky' or 'unlucky' things, or has 'Friday' or '13' in the title (title can mean the book title or a series 'title'.)
6. National Wine Day - Read a book with a wine bottle and/or a glass of wine on the cover, or where a character(s) drink wine! "Roses are red, violets are blue. Rhyming is hard. Wine." - Beauty and the Mustache
7. Choose One out of the Three Options Below - Read 'a', 'b', or 'c' to cross this off your list.
a. Lucky Penny Day - Any book written by our fearless Falconer (aka Penny Reid) can fulfill this!
b. Lost Sock Memorial Day - any book that either has socks on the cover, includes a mention of socks, debates the location of lost socks in the world, maybe knits socks, wishes they had socks.... be creative!
c. Baby Day - Any book that includes a baby. It can be a 'surprise baby', it can be losing a baby, it can be a character babysitting a baby... there just has to be some sort of 'baby' element that you can justify.
8. Memorial Day - As this is dedicated to servicemen and women that died for their country, and also a time to remember loved ones who have passed away - choose a book with a character that has served in the military OR a book where a character (of importance) dies (or recently died).
9. Mother's Day- Read a book recommended by any woman that is a mother. As long as they have/had babies (and furbabies count)... so if you are a mother, then pick out any book that you want to read as a pat on the back for all your hard work. If you are not a mother, go find any mother and ask for a recommendation of what to read.
10. Visit Your Relatives Day - Relatives... even in books, we cannot get away from them. I'm looking for characters in a book that are relatives, or maybe it's drama created by relatives, or a word in the title refers to a relative (Sister, Brother, Cousin, Father, etc.)
The only real rule (besides checking off only items that actually apply to your book that you read during the month of April) is you can't double-count books. So even if I'm reading a 'Lost Sock' book that has relatives in it, you have to choose if that book counts for #7 or #10.
Post what level you want and a list of the items you will check off and the books you will be reading. Then update (edit) that post each time you read a book. You can also let us know how you are doing and update us on your progress with a new post.
Feel free to ask questions.
Happy Reading and Good Luck!
Fine Print:
*Not every person has the means to buy the latest books (or get them from the library or whatever) so there are multiple levels of 'difficulty' to accomodate every reader that wants to join. This will not win you a ribbon or a prize for completion (or vice versa in case of failure) - it's all just a fun opportunity if you're looking to add that next level to your reading.
*You may change books and levels at any time, and unless otherwise indicated, re-reads are allowed. All genres may be used for this challenge, unless otherwise specified, all forms of reading (audio, eBook, paperback, etc.) are acceptable unless otherwise indicated.
