Let's make this a folder where we can talk about specific authors.

In the top post, as far as it works, please put a brief biography as well as a bibliography (as complete as you can) of the books in the original language and in English. If we have other threads dedicated to one of the author's books, please link to it as well so we can cross reference anything.

When in doubt, just make the thread. We'll work it out.

The authors don't have to be foreign language authors . . .

If you have authors you'd like to see a thread for, but you don't want to create the thread, I'm happy to do it. Just comment below and I'll add.

WndyJW I just got here and I'm making requests. Is there any interest in a Hilary Mantel thread? She is darkly funny and I've been on a Mantel binge of late.

Trevor - while you are there, please can you add Andrei Makine to the index?

I think Makine is already there.

Ah, I see what you mean. Yes, I will add to the index!

WndyJW is there any interest in Patrick White? He is dense, but easier than Saramago and I think he's brilliant. Well, the Nobel committee and I think he's brilliant. After reading The Tree of Man I felt that there was a romance in the mundane nightly routine of my setting up the coffee pot, while my husband turned off the lights, his shutting windows while I did the last bit of straightening up felt like a domestic dance. White illuminates the minutiae of emotions so they all feel noble. He does not get enough attention anymore.

WndyJW Maybe this is only for Booker nominated authors?

message 11: by WndyJW (new)

WndyJW What am I thinking-The Vivisector won the Booker. White is also a Booker winner.

Ah, your eloquence makes me want to read Patrick White. Right now! :)
(Amazingly it is OOP in the US, but readily available in the UK).

Wendy wrote: "What am I thinking-The Vivisector won the Booker. White is also a Booker winner." No, it didn't win, though it was shortlisted for the "lost" Booker prize that was won by Troubles. White is one of those writers I have never got round to reading (there are still plenty of those...)

This is not just for Booker winners. This forum, especially around this time of year, has a lot of interest in the Booker, but it's much broader than that, with a lot of interest in translated literature as well. I will add a Patrick White thread!

Thanks, Hugh.

Patrick White is OOP here and I have only once found him in used books store near me. I order my White from abes. This past summer I found an amazing crowded, cluttered used book store in what seemed like a ghost town in Calais Maine. I walked in to find a stack of Saramago books on her desk for her Portugal month. She actually locked me in the store while she ran to the bank! Anyway, I found a book I didn't know existed, [book:The Burnt Ones
, a collection of short stories. I also found a small stack of Margaret Drabble and my grandfather's favorite poet, Robert Service. That was the highlight of my trip.

Dan Trevor, any interest in a Patrick Modiano thread? If you put it up, I'll gladly add an introductory paragraph and list of works within the next week or two. The 21st century literature group recently read In the Café of Lost Youth—your review on M&G was referenced and mentioned—there might be interest in wider discussion.

Ella (ellamc) | 1018 comments Trevor - I just added a thread for Percival Everett here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Can we add it to the directory please? Thanks!

My version of the index has been updated to include all of the new author topics.
