Rabid Reader (rabidreaderreviews) | 29 comments Just stared an audiobook called Pathosis by Jason LaVelle. Narrator: Melanie Ewbank. It has great hooks both in the first sentence of the prolog and at the start of chapter one. If you are afraid of spiders then this will not be the book for you (unless you want a really good scare that is!)

Veronica ⭐️ I'm currently reading the Verindon Trilogy by Lynne Stringer a YA SciFi series
Just finished The Crown and loving the world building, the danger and the romance.

Oh that sounds really good and a little creepy. I have mixed feelings on spiders, but might check it out. Thanks.

Those both sound like great reads. Thanks. I'm going to go look them up on the Goodreads. :)

☆Stephanie☆ (teacherofya) | 43 comments Currently reading Call Forth The Waves...it won't let me add a link via the app...it's the second in the Celestine series by L.J. Haddon (first was Sing Down The Stars)...
Pretty good so far, and it is free from NetGalley. However, it was recently archived. But it's really good: a lot of times the books on NetGalley seem to be in need of editing BAD, especially lately. But Haddon writes well. Really well. (Reminds me of one of my favorite authors that happens to be on this thread...)
;)

Currently reading Charmed Life Diana Wynne Jones. I'm not for in, but it is kinda for children, I think. Though I really would recommend Skulduggery Pleasant. That was hilarious!

Thanks. Sounds great!

Oh and thanks so much. I'm super honored to be on your list. :)

I've heard weird things about NetGalley. Good and bad from authors and readers. This is interesting to hear.

message 9: by Rabid Reader (new)

Rabid Reader (rabidreaderreviews) | 29 comments I find it varies with NetGalley, some books are well edited and others need work but that is why publishers put books on there. They think an author or book should reach a certain level in reviews and if the reviews come back way below those expectations then they pass the comments along to the author and they may get the chance to revise prior to publication.

That's really great information. I had no idea publishers used NetGalley for that purpose. Makes perfect sense though.

Lissette (liss4ever) I'm in a Sherlock Holmes mood so I'm currently reading A Study in Charlotte which is about the descendants of Holmes and Watson, Holmes is Sherlock's great great granddaughter while James is Watson's great great grandson. Also reading Trouble is A friend of mine which another mystery that follows a similar story, a kidnapping happens and two teenagers are trying to solve it, Digby is basically Sherlock and Zoe is Watson, the only difference is that its not emphasized as much, its more about the characters and plot.

Kimberly Vanderbloom (kvanderbloom) | 13 comments I'm currently reading Master: Arrow's Flight #3 which is the final installment of the dystopian faith based series. It is pretty good. I've enjoyed it and reading it with a group on Facebook. I'm listening to In The Afterlight. I really like this dystopian series. I like the concept of super powers

I love Ann Gimpel but be prepared for some serious sex scenes.

Oh I listened to the audiobook of the Unwind series. I loved it. Really loved it. I was waiting for the second audiobook and then I guess it fell off my radar. I need to go and get it.

When I start reading a series then I continue with whatever method I began with: ebook or audio. That's why I didn't jump over to ebook.

Lol. Oh I totally do that with paperbacks. I'll tap a word to get a definition. Surprise surprise, nothing happens. So would you not recommend the last one? I usually don't like four book series. They feel too long by that point. Three is the magic number for me.

message 23: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Runion | 110 comments I would, I needed closure. It wraps it up nicely with some plot twists even!

I actually like four books in a series. But only if there's a lot to happen, if it gets boring, then I don't like it. When I publish my books, I'm definitely going to make it four books. There's just too much to happen in the story I'm writing. But yes, I also do like trilogies. :)

message 26: by Lexie (new)

Lexie It really depends on the story and the series. Sometimes a really good series needs a bigger number of books because there's so much that happens, other times it isn't necessary. If a series has like six books, but they're all really good, that's still fine.

Yeah, I agree. I mean, look at Harry Potter. I think I prefer to write trilogies, but I read whatever is really good. The Lunar Chronicles is another example of a really good longer series. But she manages that my having tons of characters and changing perspectives.

message 30: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Runion | 110 comments I'll read it whatever length, the key is that it keeps my attention. I have several series that I have read/am reading that are realllllllly long.

message 32: by Gretel (new)

Gretel I just finished listening to XODUS (Astralis, #1) by K.J. McPike . For me, it had a very similar feel to Ms. Noffke's novels. It was about a sixteen year old girl who finds out she is half Astralii, a race of people who can astral project, shortly after her mother goes missing.

Stephanie Runion | 110 comments My ARC ended up being a RomCom.... LMAO!

Ummmm, long series - Mortal Instruments and all the sister series. The one with Quinn, mystic something or other, I'm waiting on another book in it and it's like long already. The Weaver series, waiting on book 4 or is it 5? But need!

Seriously, length is irrelevant but some authors like 4 books and should have done it in 3 because it's too slow those last 2 books. Some authors, not Sarah!! Should have done 4 and do it in 3 and you feel like the wrapping of of the story is rushed and lacking. A story will take as long as a story will take and the characters sometimes have more to say and do than other times. I totally don't think series length is a reflection of how good a series will be.

And I hope something in that made sense....

Off to read JN, maybe... If he didn't say something wack on my Facebook today...

I just wrote my review for it. It was a really entertaining read, and I did like it, but I have so many questions about why things happened as they did... It wasn't perfect (I am hard to impress), but I am still looking forward to book 2.
