Can I use Island of Hope, Island of Tears: The Story of Those Who Entered the New World through Ellis Island-In Their Own Words? It is currently #413 on the list. I am the one who added it to the list, but this same list was used for my task (25.12) during the Winter reading challenge. I added several books, including this one, to the list before it was published to the group.

It seems like we're using more lists now, so you may run into this situation again. When we have a list-related task, I try to vote for and add books that fit the list once I've finished the task.

If you are the only one who added it to the list, then you can't use it for a task involving a list.

Quick question: I found Persepolis on the list. The version I have is the collected edition that includes both part 1 (that is on the list) and part 2. Can I use the collected edition for this task or do I need an edition that just includes part 1?

No, you can use an edition that contains both parts. See the Rules of the Challenge for omnibus editions.
