This thread will contain spoilers for A Game of Thrones up through the end of the book!

Rita (xeyra) The ending Dany chapter is even more epic with the visual representation the show gave us, which gave me goosebumps when I first watched it.

It's a bit surprising that once Ned dies, every proceeding chapter feels somewhat less tension filled, even though War has broken out in the Seven Kingdoms. Once he dies, the chapters wind down until the epic finale, the calm before the storm returns in A Clash of Kings.

message 3: by Jesse (new) - added it

Jesse | 18 comments I haven't read in so long because I've been super, super busy, so I'm still on page 239. I'm still hoping to finish by the end of June, but if not, I'll go into July with AGoT to finish it and then start ACoK. I'm such a slacker lol

I'm about halfway through and even though I'm behind, I'm DETERMINED to finish by the end of June. I do not want to fail this read-along! :) All of the Cat chapters make me put the book down LOL. Always have, always will.

Joss (jossdwrites) I finished! This is such an amazing feeling. I'd been wanting to start this series for YEARS and now I made it through the first book.

This book was amazing! It was heartbreaking, intense, and just awesome. I may even watch the show just to see it come to life!

I hope everyone is doing well with the book!

And yes the Catelyn chapters are my least favorite. She's just not a personable character. I don't feel any connection towards her so I just didn't enjoy reading her chapters.

I'm 78% through it with three days left! GAH, roughly 130 pages according to my Kindle version. I'm doing thiss! So happy you're all enjoying it. I think Dany's chapters are some of my favorites in this book--her story arc in AGoT is so great.

I finished it a couple days ago and I have to say I quite enjoyed listening to the audiobook this time. I think I will continue listening to the rest on audio!

Also I didn't think it was possible for my love of this series to grow anymore but I loved this book even more this time! I'm glad everyone is enjoying it!!

I FINISHED. Whew.

Since I'm rereading the series, it's amazing to me how many clues and foreshadowing tidbits there are throughout this first book. I loved rereading it even more than reading it for the first time! I caught on to so many things (that I won't mention here, since I know some of you are reading for the first time :))

Sansa's last chapter really hit me hard. I've always disliked her, but reading her last chapter, and seeing her in utter despair...it makes me feel guilty for disliking her for so long. She is literally in the worst situation possible.

Dany's arc in this book is just phenomenal. I can't say enough about it.

Ned's chapters are riddled with clues and foreshadowing, and I loved that so much, and then of course, his chapters were also heartbreaking. Five years later, I'm still not over his death.

Jon is my favorite and has always been my favorite. I loved his exchange with Maester Aemon so much.

I can't say I have much love for Cat's chapters, but I loved when she snapped back at the men for calling her the more gentle sex: "Give me Cersei Lannister, and you would see how gentle a woman can be. Perhaps I do not understand tactics and strategy...but I understand futility." BOOM.
