Em*Greedy* (Iniya) (iniya_n) Shut up and start reading/recollecting.. :-P

Em Lost In Books (emlostinbooks) I don't remember much about earlier books.:P that's why I asked you to create this thread and start discussing so that I know all the things that I have forgotten.;)

But I remember all the spoilers. I will gladly write them here.:P

message 6: by Viji (new)

Viji | 34 comments Could I join you in this BR? What is the time frame to complete the books - would one book a month be alright? Already completed 3 books in the series. Would it count?

Thanks.

message 7: by Srividya (new)

Srividya Vijapure (theinkedmermaid) Hi Viji!!! :) Welcome to RR and this BR thread! :D

And don't ask such difficult questions regarding time frame. :P No such hard and fast rule. Just read at your pace and discuss at your pace. All you need to do is mark which book you are currently reading and put up your post.

As of now, most of the group has read up to book 3 I think and will be starting with book 4. I have completed book 4 and will be reading book 5.

Manju, our Dresden expert, has read all the books. So she will always be here to discuss any and every book that is being read.

Hope this helps.

message 8: by Srividya (new)

Srividya Vijapure (theinkedmermaid) Oh and another thing, reading a book a month will earn you extra brownie points from Manju as she has been trying to get us to do the same and we have lagged behind tremendously. So who knows, with you joining us, we might get a little disciplined! :D

*stares at Harry and Ini*

message 9: by Viji (new)

Viji | 34 comments Oh, Thanks, Sri, for the grand welcome. I am not following the order like you all. I read books 2,3 and 8 for some earlier challenges. This is a new genre for me. I thought I will not like this series but found it is not so bad as I presumed. At places it was quite fun. I started accepting Harry with his shortcomings, stupidity and occasional flashes of intelligence!! So, want to complete the series before I forget the main story line of the series.

As for the discussion part, I am not used to it. I love to read the discussions of the books by others and I am not good at it. I read a book, I like it or not. That's my level of discussion! he, he , he!

message 10: by Jaya (new)

Jaya I am yet to start with the first one, will catch up...ONE DAY :)

message 11: by Srividya (new)

Srividya Vijapure (theinkedmermaid) Don't worry Viji. We will get those discussions out of you! ;)

Jaya - Hushhhhh!! You will face Manju's wrath if you say that you will delay starting this series! :P

But may give up if it doesn't suit my palate.

message 14: by Jaya (new)

Jaya Yayyy! company. I am more of a disciplined reader if I have company. :) Though I am hoping that I would like it....

You let me know when you want to start?

message 15: by Ahtims (new)

Ahtims (embeddedinbooks) | 2936 comments Not in the recent future, Jaya .

Em Lost In Books (emlostinbooks) Jaya & Syl: Dresden file books are so much fun. am sure Jaya will like him since she is used to reading UF, am not sure about Syl since she is not used to this genre.:P but there is no harm in trying.;)

@Viji: Hello!! am not happy that you didn't read the books in order, since by Proven Guilty, there are lots of things that you know which were secrets of earlier books. you know about Thomas, Molly and what happened in Sidhe Courts.:'( and Lash too.:'(

better you start it from book one to enjoy it fully.:D:D

Sorry, Manju. Somebody told me the books in these series are stand alone and so I went to Proven Guilty as it suited one of the challenges. I don't remember much of this - the price one pays for trying short cuts! Anyway, I will start the first book soon. Probably by going through the series in order, I could have a grasp.

~~Poulomi Sylphrena Tonk$~~ | 5979 comments Its good that some people are yet to start. Need to brush away the cobwebs of my rotten memory. :P

Will join in from Book 3.

Great idea, Sri and Ini, for coming up with this thread. :)

message 24: by Jaya (new)

Jaya @ Col. ohh ok.
Since Manju had mentioned that these are not very lengthy ones, I plan to start by next month at least (maybe sooner...)

Em*Greedy* (Iniya) (iniya_n) Most of us have finished atleast the first 2 books Karishma... except Jaya and Viji who are starting from 1...

message 28: by Srividya (new)

Srividya Vijapure (theinkedmermaid) Karishma - I think they will start reading the first book next month. You could join in then OR simply start next month, which will force them to join you. :)

message 29: by Viji (new)

You can start, Vin. Many are about to start or have just started. Keep updating as you read.
Anyways you'll always find manyyyy to discuss out here. :P

Told you. By the time you reach proven guilty, Harry has come a long way from the person he was in book 1. So much was revealed in 5-8 books. :)

How are you liking it? Whats happening now in the book?

message 37: by Jarvis (new)

Jarvis I will join for the second book and all the following ones :)

I completed Storm Front today. I liked the book. Though most of the book is 'doom and gloom' (in Harry's words), Harry's wit and humour dispel that. Wondering why the potion making was discussed so much but just after that, the twist in the scene made it hilarious (of course, not for poor Harry). I thought only ordinary human beings like us suffer from Internet glitches but Harry is also suffering from the absence of his 'google' Bob!

Wish we all could be as resilient as Harry from physical attacks and accidents! On the whole quite enjoyable.

Luckily I could not recall much from Proven Guilty!! Thinking of rereading that in the proper order along with you all.

Capping it all - I could use this book for more than 5 challenges!

message 41: by Em Lost In Books (new)

Em Lost In Books (emlostinbooks) @Viji: its first book, Wizards are mostly about spells, potions and curses. & thats why Butcher went into so much details about potion making. But as the series progressed potion making is not described in details.

Bob is so much fun and so powerful and useful.:)

message 42: by Em Lost In Books (new)

Em Lost In Books (emlostinbooks) @Jaya, am starting Storm Front today. :)

message 43: by Jaya (new)

Jaya Thanks Manju, I'l try to start in a day or two :)

message 44: by Em Lost In Books (new)

Em Lost In Books (emlostinbooks) am 25% done and liking it very much. This is not as good as the books after Blood Rites but its still a good first book in a big series.

Met Murphy, Marcone, Toot and Susan.

message 45: by Jaya (new)

Jaya Started last night, done with around 5 chapters.

Also read a small novella, prequel to this, just 12 pages. It was a short & fun ride.

thoughts?

message 47: by Jaya (new)

Jaya Easy to read not much complicated world building (as of now). My troubles with fantasies arise when they have unusual names of places and people, it gets difficult for me to keep track, who is who :D
And am liking Harry, his wisecrack comments and reactions.

message 48: by Jaya (new)

Jaya Has any one read the graphic novels/illustrated version of these books?

message 49: by Em Lost In Books (new)

Em Lost In Books (emlostinbooks) past 60% mark and am enjoying it as much as i did the first time. I know the killer in this but have forgotten why he did it.

Jaya, I haven't read any graphic novels for this series.:)

message 50: by Jaya (new)

Jaya hey! am around 48% done...
trying to get hold of the graphic novels as well :)
