by Theodore Krulik. Some good stuff.

"I am fascinated, I suppose, by a flawed man with a streak of greatness. I am not unsympathetic to less savory characters. I care more, and I think readers do also, for characters in a state of transformation. It would be wrong to write a book where the protagonist proceeds through all the events of a story and winds up pretty much the same at the end. What happens to him shouldn’t be just an adventure without having any effect on him. He has to be changed by the things that take place."

Jim (jimmaclachlan) | 979 comments Thanks! Interesting & a good reminder. I skimmed through Complete Amber Sourcebook a while ago. It's an Amber Encyclopedia, so not very readable like a regular book, but it is fun to pot around in occasionally. I plan to refer to it more closely the next time I read them. I gave it a 4 star review here:

I'd never been able to reach him previously, such as when I was working on the Zelazny biography, but now he and I have been having a fascinating conversation off-line.

Jim (jimmaclachlan) | 979 comments Since this primarily is about Amber, I'm moving it to the Amber folder. Readers should also see the existing topic on the Sourcebook here:

Jim (jimmaclachlan) | 979 comments That was a great trip. Thanks for those, Chris. I scrolled to the bottom of the page & read them each in full as I worked my way to the top. Learned a lot about Zelazny, although you covered quite a bit of it in the Collected Works, too. Still, it was illuminating.
