Jackie | 82 comments Hello everyone and welcome to June! Our June poll is closed and I'm excited to say that the theme is Great First Lines! There are so many options for this. You can select a book with a well-known first line or even something that just resonates with you. Some ideas:

100 Best First Lines from Novels
The 50 Best First Sentences in Fiction
30 Great Opening Lines in Literature
53 of the Best Opening Sentences in Literature

Remember that once you've finished your book(s) for the month, you're always welcome to start a discussion topic in the month's folder (which works best if there are others in the group who have read or are currently reading the book in question) or post your thoughts (or just drop a link to your review!) in the thread below. I would LOVE to see what you all think of as a great first line and why you selected it, so post away!

And don't forget to vote on the poll for July's theme (only 3 votes so far!) and the poll for August's theme is now open!

Anne | 68 comments I'm going to read 'A Place for Us' by Harriet Evans, not an author I've read before. The first line is 'The day Martha Winter decided to tear apart her family began like any other day.' which I think sounds like a promising book. A Place For Us by Harriet Evans

I really enjoyed this book, the first line lived up to it's promise, I can definitely recommend it.

Shomeret | 69 comments I've just started Outrun the Moon by Stacy Lee. The first line is "In my fifteen years, I have stuck my arm in a vat of slithering eels, climbed all the major hills of San Francisco, and tiptoed over the graves of a hundred souls." This sounds like an interesting character with an eventful life.

Janet (goodreadscomjanetj) | 101 comments Just finished Behind the Scenes at the Museum. The first line is "I exist." Great start to a book that I really enjoyed.
