Discussion Questions for The Disappearing Spoon
1. Which story about the periodic table did you like the most? The least?
2. What did you think about the way in which the material was presented (author's writing style)?
3. What did you think about Kean's personification of the elements? Were there any characterizations with which you disagreed?
4. Kean does more than simply discuss each element: he weaves history, literature, medicine, mythology, biology, a little art, and interesting bits of trivia to reveal his fascination with the elements of the periodic table. What did you think about the added information (e.g., the longest word in Chapter 2).
