Woohoo, Renee!

message 8: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 10 comments I'm exactly halfway through In Cold Blood by Truman Capote. Loving it so far.

message 9: by Sam F (new)

Sam F | 198 comments So luxurious - a morning filled with lying around reading! I just finished Me Before You by Jojo Moyes. I didn't think I would be sucked into a chick-lit novel but it was so emotional. I'll have to watch the movie now to compare.

Happy reading!

This is next on my Readathon list.

message 11: by Ella (new)

Ella Farrell | 1 comments I just finished Me Before You a couple months ago, with plans to see the movie adaptation when it came out in theaters! Unfortunately, I've been too busy to see it yet, but it's one of my current favorites!

message 12: by Veronique (new)

Veronique It is nice to spend most of the day reading :0)

Beth - how is Aurora so far? I'd like ro read that one.
Renee - wow!

I'm also not really into chicklit per se but read Me Before You (kindle cheap) and was indeed sucked in

So, just finished A Natural History of Dragons, which I enjoyed. What next...

Holly-
I really enjoyed it this time around. I found it very rich and filled with things to think about. I managed to pick up an Audible with Anthony Heald as the reader. He was terrific! It made such a difference and helped me to understand the individual characters better.

Renee, I wish I was alowed an Ipod during work! I work a twelve hr day so just imagine... I could finish 1 to 2 books a day that way! (Unless it's a long one)

message 15: by sonya (new)

I finished up Agnes and the Hitman this morning (for a book club I'm in), and was surprised to like it. It's chick lit, which I don't read very often, but also suspense. Full of murders, mobsters, cooking and wedding prep - a combo that worked, believe it or not.

Now I'm onto The Silkworm, which I've been saving for a time when I could read it with as few breaks as possible. Perfect for a readathon on a holiday weekend!

message 17: by sonya (new)

sonya marie madden | 437 comments I'm reading new moon

message 18: by Tracey (new)

Tracey | 916 comments I just finished the 60 pages of A Clockwork Orange and thank goodness! I just could not get into the writing in that one.

message 20: by Veronique (new)

Veronique Finished The Family From One End Street, charming 1937 children's book.

Cindy - I enjoyed Big Stone Gap too
Allison - hope you're enjoying The Silkworm :0!

Ooo! I just loved Agnes and the Hitman! Jennifer Crusie just cracks me up. If you decide you enjoyed this one enough to read more, I recommend Bet Me, Welcome to Temptation, and Faking It.

message 22: by Jenny, Certified Bookworm (new)

Jenny Clark | 1638 comments Mod
Finished The Price of Salt, going to finish Dogwood Hill next.

message 23: by Margie (new)

Margie Finished Smoke. The concept is so original but it was a bit slow and the whole story didn't quite come together for me. But I'm caught up with all my overdue library books! Next up is The Atomic Weight of Love

message 24: by Renee, Mistress of the Mini-Challenge (new)

Renee M | 4789 comments Mod
I'm sorry to hear about Smoke. The concept does look very interesting. :(

I've finished with The Fortune of War by Patrick O'Brian. It was a reread (listened, this time) so it went very quickly.

Not sure what's up next. Either Harry Potter or another Vorkosigan.

message 25: by Jenny, Certified Bookworm (new)

Jenny Clark | 1638 comments Mod
Margie, Atomic Weight of Love sounds interesting and Renee, good luck choosing! I just finished The Stranger myself.

message 26: by Veronique (new)

message 33: by Cindy (last edited Jul 03, 2016 12:43PM) (new)

Cindy | 384 comments I started reading The Unvanquished by William Faulkner. Hopefully will find time to read some chapters of The War of the Worlds. I am sticking to my plan of working on the Decade challenge for the readathon.

message 34: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (jenn_calaelen) | 40 comments I finished Penric and the Shaman and Throne of Jade, and started Black Powder War.

Loved Penric and the Shaman - wonderful characters and so much interesting world building, especially answering some questions left in other books in the series.

message 35: by Allison, Quest Hound (new)

Allison (rainy-day-reads) | 1296 comments Mod
Those are two of my favorite series, Jenn, even though I haven't read all the books yet. I'm glad to hear the Penric stories are good. I'm so glad she's writing more in that world!

message 36: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (jenn_calaelen) | 40 comments @Allison Both very good series - and yes, so glad for more 5 Gods stories (even though I love her other worlds too). Temeraire is more complicated for me, as I loved the first book and then had issues with some things in the middle books (mostly world building), but there is so much going for them, as I realise on rereading :)

message 37: by Sarah (last edited Jul 03, 2016 02:36PM) (new)

Sarah (charmedh2ogirl) | 3 comments I finished the Assassin's Blade it was such a thrilling read. I hope to read either Ms Marvel volume 2 or Heir of Fire next.

message 39: by Tracey (new)

Tracey | 916 comments Started and finished The Vile Village today. The weather was so beautiful to sit outside and read in.

Tomorrow I'm headed home on a flight. Trying to decide plane books are so difficult: light and fluffy, or something that I've been putting off to really force myself to get into it?

It will be a change of pace from Unfortunate Events but I'd say go for the book you've been putting off -ANY distraction is good on a plane.

message 41: by Mindy (new)

Mindy Jones (mindyrecycles) I'm halfway through listening to Lord of the Flies and 100+ pages into Pillars of the Earth. (Obviously I'm not ONLY reading, alas). I'm enjoying both books tremendously.

message 42: by Beth (new)

Beth Veronique wrote:

It's fantastic! Not usually fast paced, but there's plenty of drama, it just builds up slowly. It's a very convincing exploration of what life on an interstellar ship could be like. I will probably finish it tonight or tomorrow morning. My first time reading KS Robinson, but I will probably want to read more.

Just finished Silkworm and feeling very satisfied.

message 44: by Martha (new)

Martha (marthag503) I've read 33% of A Bollywood Affair. I was getting worried that I wouldn't be participating in this readathon because I haven't been able to stick with anything for the last three days. I'm sticking with this one. It's a light read and fun too. I should finish this book tomorrow.

message 45: by Veronique (new)

Veronique Thanks for the good wishes :0)

Thanks Beth - Sounds great. Definitely reading Aurora soon

I've read about a quarter of Zorro, which is pretty good, and ended Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic, thought-provoking and poignant

Deborah Pickstone | 563 comments Are you being cheeky, Jenny! :D I have been told I am a help to Readathons and team reads etc cos I unfortunately read so fast :(

message 49: by Jenny, Certified Bookworm (new)

Jenny Clark | 1638 comments Mod
Yes I am hehe! And yea, reading fast can be anoying. Are you going to read Order of the Phenox?

Brenda (aka Grandma) | 278 comments @Jenn Glad you enjoyed Penric and the Shaman! I just realized those novellas exist a few days ago and am excited to try them.

I finished The Book of Salt, which I had no idea would be such a stand-out. Now I'm in the middle of The Empress of Mars, but it's small print so I also started Rihannsu: The Bloodwing Voyages (old school Trek classic for Romulan culture)
