Yes, food for thought - as the question says...

Can you name the first book and/or movie from your childhood that made you perceive the life in different way than before?

You know, that one you still hold on to, even if it now doesn't seem so great as it used to be, but you can't help yourself, you simply love it and would never give it up?

I started this thread, because I just did a bit of cleaning (well, once in a while one must), and glimpsed on one of the shelves a very old book that was a gift from my aunt when I was I think eight or nine - Malibu by Vance Joseph Hoyt, that I am now shocked to see not a single other copy of it is to be seen on GoodReads, although it was translated from an original that was written I think in 1930s.

In short, it was a story about a naturalist (or forest warden, something in that sense) who came to raise together a deer fawn and a cougar cub, actually it was a tale about their unusual friendship and perils of life after their ways parted. It was a story I really was genuinely touched by, and it didn't appear to be written for kids.

Alana (alanasbooks) | 730 comments O my goodness, so many books! The Giving Tree, The Chronicles of Narnia, the Little House books, The Hobbit, the Nancy Drew books (well, I had all KINDS of kids mystery series that I read, so we'll just say all of them!)....

Ok, maybe some of those weren't AS mind-blowing, but The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe and the Little House books have always stuck with me, because of the many beautiful lessons from them. My parents read the Narnia books to me long before I could even understand them (and several times since) so they've always had a big impact on me.
