Hey gang!
I'm still working on Lords of the Sith. Truth is, I accidentally started Tarkin a month early. So I got a little behind in my LotS reading. But I'm 3/4 of the way through and wow.

Some of things that happen in this one are what I always wondered about Vader's inner monologue. As a kid, knowing him only as Vader, of course he was just the bad guy...with redemption in his soul. But to my young mind there were no layers, not a lot of depth beyond the love of a father for a son.
As the story of Anakin was introduced to me I began to wonder about Vader, the big bad without a soul. All of a sudden it made me see him differently. Wonder how he could just step into darkness and forget all about Padme, Obi-Wan and his lost Jedi family.
Turns out he doesn't forget them. And there are some great moments in this book where he reminisces about his past. Though the Emperor won't tolerate that kind of nostalgia.

On the subject of the Emperor. It was interesting to see the more combative dynamic between Vader and the Emperor. Vader is constantly thinking through the role of apprentice to master and as with tradition, one always ends up outliving the other. That is the destiny of Sith Lords. When weakness is sensed in one the other does what must be done and moves on with a new Apprentice. There are moments when Vader thinks through that destiny and wonders when his time will be. All the while the Emperor knows he has a live wire on his hands. If he was impetuous and head strong as a Jedi, obviously the Dark Side amplifies those darker natures. So they only increase in Vader.

The other chess piece is Ryloth and the Resistance against the Emperor, Vader and their new Empire. I love a good story of Rebellion.

But I think the parts, so far, that have grabbed me most have been the scenes with Vader and the Emperor. I'm just intrigued by Vader's inner monologue and his remembrance of who he was!

Looking forward to finishing it this week and then it's on to Tarkin for July!
Happy reading!
