Ann (annrumsey) | 16930 comments The August 2016 Group Read book is a thriller set in the future by John Sandford and Ctein. No spoilers please on this thread - Are you planning on reading it?
There are sixty-five chapters, I'll start some spoilers welcome comment threads soon.

Russ | 347 comments Hopefully, yes. It sounds a little like Footfall without the elephants. I'm going to read the Kindle sample before making a decision.

Sandi (sandin954) | 1276 comments I have the audio version and do plan to listen soon.

BarryP (barrypz) | 3498 comments I read this quite a while ago and thought it very well done.

Jack | 179 comments I just got it from the library but came up same time as the fireman so going to read that first. Sounds like it will be a good one. Hopefully can get through the fireman in a couple of weeks and catch up with the group reads.

Bruce Perrin | 132 comments Count me in. The Prey series is one of my all-time favorites, so I'll see how he does a futuristic thriller.

BarryP (barrypz) | 3498 comments I did not see much of Sanford in this book, other than his name on the cover.

Bruce Perrin | 132 comments Well, that's a bummer for the readers, but unfortunately, it's all too common these days. Oh well, have to find the good authors before they become too popular and get someone else to do the work.

I thought you (or someone) said that this retained some of the humor of the Prey series. I was looking forward to that.

Ditto. Have to choose between this and the Steve Hamilton group read. (I'm way behind as you can see....)

Ann (annrumsey) | 16930 comments I went ahead and used an audible.com credit for it. No audio in the library system. It's 16+ hours long!

message 12: by Russ (new)

Russ | 347 comments I read a sample--the first couple of chapters. The first few pages were boring. It picked up a little with the descriptions of Sandy, but there were repetition and sequence issues that suggest insufficient editing. I could be missing out, but unless somebody tells me that it gets way better later on, I'll pass on this one.

Ann (annrumsey) | 16930 comments I'll let you know Russ. Sometimes an audio benefits from heavy descriptions at the beginning, sometimes not so much. I am several days away from starting it.

BarryP (barrypz) | 3498 comments this is what I said:

Saturn Run: John Sanford/Ctien
Sci-fi, but of the variety that extrapolates on existing technology and politics to predict what might happen with an extraordinary mission a hundred years in the future. I see this as being eclipsed by The Martian, but still an excellent work in its own right. The USA and China race to see what they might learn from an alien civilization detected near Saturn.(B+)

Ann (annrumsey) | 16930 comments I started the book today on Kindle. It is a very interesting beginning. I am not finished with my current audio, I'll probably listen to this one next.

message 16: by Ann (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ann (annrumsey) | 16930 comments Russ and anyone on the fence for this one, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I do love science and science fiction, but the pace and detail including the "rocket science" was just right imho. Terrific characters, political intrigue, thrilling suspense and a look into the future.

Russ | 347 comments Thanks, Ann!

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9485 comments Thanks, Ann, I came back here looking on encouragement for reading this, as I am on the fence and keep delaying it. Your words moved me closer as I am not a big fan of science fiction but AM a big fan of John Sandford.
