Beth Schluter I have just finished this classic Sci-Fi story and really enjoyed this twist on space battles. I could relate to the characters despite the age and it was a refreshing take on the soldier of war. I just couldn't put it down.

Lizzie I was impressed. The book wa much more serious and had more depth to it than I had expected from reading the Amazon description. I have now read the 2nd an 3rd books.

I am appreciative of them being about he same characters without being cliffhangers. I like series that are not serials with the outcome of Chapter 1 being in Book 6.

Ramon Bong I read Red Shirts first which prompted me to read Old Man's War. Non related story but I loved Red Shirts and heard rave reviews about his other series.
I really enjoyed OMW; from the style of space warfare to the funny characters. Finished Zoe's Tale (#4 in the series) and taking a break for now.

Victor Anderson Scalzi is one of those authors who, once you read one book, you want to read them all.

I plan to do so. But the cost will slow me down. His books are on the more expensive side at around $10. I still have a problem paying that price for an ebook. Printed I would more easily do so. Having been able ti read the first one for free I am now hooked and want to own them.

Red Shirts has been on my list for a while but wasnt a prime lend and was costly. Now I know that I like the author having read OMW as a library lend, Red Shirts has moved up in my list of books to buy.

Agreed. I had read 3 of his books. Redshirts, old man's war, lock in. He tries to tell sci-fi stories in different ways so they would also occur to me as love stories, humanity novels or sometimes just a story you can't stop thinking over after finishing it.

As someone who lives in China, the cost is even higher. But they're all worth it.

John OMW was not what I was expecting. It totally pulled me in - fantastic read. Rarely do I get this attached to a book, but this one did it to me.

You should read An Agent to the Stars. Another very good Scalzi book.

I am a John Scalzi fan.

Wyatt Being an Old Man. I was attracted to the title. I have just discovered John Scalzi which is exciting for me. I am already on The Ghost Brigades and am looking forward to tearing through more of his books.

Joel Hacker This, and the whole Old Man's War series, is probably the best thing Scalzi has written. If you haven't read some of the specific authors and stories he references in this, you should as they are all excellent the inspiration he derived from them is obvious. The elderly are definitely an under-utilized group when it comes to protagonists in genre literature/film, and this was an interesting way to implement them while still maintaining the undercurrent of power fantasy so common in genre work.

John Scalzi has been one of my go-to authors for years. I have read many of his books including the entire Old Man's War series. He's a talented and inventive author who rarley goes wrong and can always be counted on to entertain and challenge.

Andrew Smith Being an old man as well, I liked the title and my son suggested this series to me. We read them all together and enjoyed the premise and the characters.

Library?

Hastati1989 I was enthralled reading it. Somehow the book hooked me from the start and I had no issue reading it without putting it down and reading another (as it is my bad habit). I've got to pace myself or else I will run out of his books far too soon!
