I've just re-watched the movie a few weeks ago, but have never read the book. I'm looking forward to starting it.

I have watched the movie too. I still liked the book better but as far as I remember the movie was very decent too.

Very much, and it was just as good as I'd remembered.
I've heard the book is even better, although that shouldn't be a surprise, I suppose. :)

Would be starting it latest by tomorrow. Excited to read this.

I'm in the middle of All the Light We Cannot See, so I'll most likely start it on Saturday.

I want to read this but My plate is full now.. I will start in 15 August

Shutter Island - I have started. Would go very slow if everyone else is joining late as don't want to be a loner.

@Gehna - the movie is great, the atmosphere is amazing and DiCaprio plays fantastically. Very dark too.

I didn't take them as a spoiler, but my reply could have been so I deleted it. LOL

It's going to be difficult to discuss this book without revealing things. Maybe we should have a different thread for each chapter. :-D

Day1 - Rachel - Chapter 4
(view spoiler)[Interesting character development of Rachel. The breakfast story with her kids.... damn! Where could she have gone? I know its not suicide by jumping into those crashing waves. She must be hiding some nice place on the island... may be inside the building only?

Sorry I told before to go slow so others starting late could catch up. But this is the kind of book, after starting I just can't wait....

(view spoiler)[Most of the characters from asylum are very interestingly written. I chuckled at the other doctor who upon meeting Chuck and Teddy started to immediately analyse them. Did you get to the part where the storm hits and Teddy and Chuck have a long session of deductions? There's some pretty intense foreshadowing there.
Also, I did not believe for one second that Rachel did something to herself. Knowing that she'd have to pass so many people working at the island it really and trully felt like a set up. (hide spoiler)]

And I agree, although I felt that the start was rather slow, today when I was reading the book on my way to work I nearly missed my stop.

Same feeling I had with the slow and abstract start.

The writing didn't captivate me for the first few chapters. The story is interesting enough, but the narration is a bit 'dry'.

Day 2 - Chapter 8
(view spoiler)[Teddy claims that six months back Laeddis was sent to Shutter Island for killing Dolores. But we haven't heard of any mental problems of Laeddis. Then if convicted, why would Laeddis be sent to Shutter Island and not to a normal prison? (hide spoiler)]

I have seen the movie and loved it !! Leo 's performance was amazing as usual ! Hoping to read this book soon :)

You mean book is not as good as movie?

Totally agree with Karolina.
Even I loved the movie more. May be because I saw it before reading, but still feel movie is a must watch irrespective of whether you read it or not.

I'm yet to read and watch the movie.
You guys suggest watching the movie first?

@Palash - yes! Even though I've watched it a few years ago, it still made a geat impression - one I remember to this day. The characters portrayed in the book did not feel as real to me, there was something missing in the narration/dialogue, which made the whole story a bit weaker in my opinion. After great performances from the actors, I think I had higher expectations for the novel.
