message 1: by Jen (new)

Jen | 268 comments Was wondering if there was an Austin local meetup group. I may be relocating to that area and would love to join a group of it exists.

message 2: by Eric (new)

Eric I live in ATX, but don't know of any groups.

message 3: by Heather (new)

Heather | 24 comments Also in Austin, also not aware of a group.

message 4: by Sandra (new)

Sandra (whatlovelybooks) | 182 comments I would be down for a S&L Austin group!

message 5: by Eric (new)

Eric I would be interested in one as well, but am a little limited on time.

message 6: by Jen (new)

Jen | 268 comments Hey guys! so I am in Austin now (Cedar Park actually). Are there any days of the week or areas of town that's preferable? I am pretty flexible. We would probably want to meet at the end of the month to talk about the Book of the Month (or even the first week of the month to talk about the previous month's book).

message 7: by Sandra (new)

Sandra (whatlovelybooks) | 182 comments I would vote on meeting at the end of the month. My schedule is also pretty flexible. We must also decide which of the gazillion coffee shops we should meet at?

message 8: by Jen (new)

Jen | 268 comments What part of Austin are you in, Sandra?

message 9: by Sandra (new)

Sandra (whatlovelybooks) | 182 comments South Austin, but I can get to downtown pretty quickly so BookPeople or the Hideout could be fun.

message 10: by Jen (new)

Jen | 268 comments I was thinking a bookstore could be cool if they have a cafe and space for us. If we do downtown or even south, the weekends would probably be better for me. We could make a standing last Saturday or Sunday of the month appointment.

message 11: by Eric (new)

Eric Book People isn't that far for me either. weekends would also be preferable. But I'm open to other coffee shops.

message 12: by Jen (new)

Jen | 268 comments We can always try Book People, and if it doesn't work, try a different place the next month. Does anyone have a preference for Saturdays or Sundays?

message 13: by Sandra (new)

Sandra (whatlovelybooks) | 182 comments Both days work for me, but I would prefer to meet earlier in the day rather than at night. I'm free the 29th if we wanted to meet this month.

message 14: by Jen (new)

Jen | 268 comments The 29th works for me. 2pm?

message 15: by Eric (new)

Eric Works for me. Adding it to my calendar.

message 16: by Jen (new)

Jen | 268 comments OK cool! I made an event too. Guess I need to get started on the book!

message 17: by Sandra (new)

Sandra (whatlovelybooks) | 182 comments Sounds good, we can meet in the cafe at the bookstore.

I stickied your thread and put the date of your next meetup in the title in case others might want to join.

message 19: by Jen (new)

Jen | 268 comments Thank you Rob!

Your welcome. It's always nice to see another local meet-up get started.

Maybe if I come to Pax South one of these years and the dates line up, I can crash the party :)

message 21: by Jen (new)

Jen | 268 comments Here and in a gray Slytherin shirt. Found a table st the cafe.

message 22: by Eric (new)

Eric on my way. running a few behind.

message 23: by Jen (new)

Jen | 268 comments I think the first Meetup of the Austin Sword & Laser Group was a success!

message 24: by Sandra (new)

Sandra (whatlovelybooks) | 182 comments Yeah it was! Our next meeting will be Feb. 26th at 2pm at BookPeople if anyone wants to join us.

message 25: by Jen (new)

Jen | 268 comments Hope to see you guys tomorrow to talk about The Salt Roads aka why I've been so salty this month.

message 26: by Sandra (new)

Sandra (whatlovelybooks) | 182 comments Haha, see you tomorrow!

message 27: by Sandra (new)

Sandra (whatlovelybooks) | 182 comments Next meeting is March 26th at 2pm.

message 28: by Sandra (new)

Sandra (whatlovelybooks) | 182 comments Strangely enough John Scalzi is doing a book signing at BookPeople at 3pm on the 26th. The cafe might be busier than usual.

message 29: by Eric (new)

Eric Yikes, the place might be packed. Do we want to look for another place to meet? Epoch? Or does anyone else have a coffee shop they prefer?

message 30: by Jen (new)

Jen | 268 comments I don't really have a preference. Do you think moving it up an hour to 1 might help?

message 31: by Sandra (last edited Mar 22, 2017 06:34AM) (new)

Sandra (whatlovelybooks) | 182 comments I'm not sure if I can get there by 1. I heard Cenote is a nice coffee shop, if that's ok?

message 32: by Eric (new)

Eric Never been, but if they have coffee and chairs I'm good with it.

message 33: by Jen (new)

Jen | 268 comments I'm good with trying a new place. Is it somewhat close to BookPeople?

message 34: by Sandra (new)

Sandra (whatlovelybooks) | 182 comments It's less than 2 miles away, just on the other side of the highway. They have a small parking lot next to the church.

message 35: by Jen (new)

Jen | 268 comments Parking, chairs, and coffee - sounds good to me!

message 36: by Jen (new)

Jen | 268 comments Running just the tiniest bit late.

message 37: by Sandra (new)

Sandra (whatlovelybooks) | 182 comments Found a small table inside in the back.

Sandra (whatlovelybooks) | 182 comments outside now

message 39: by Jen (new)

Jen | 268 comments Here and in line for a coffee - I reeeeeeeaallly need one today.

message 40: by Eric (new)

Eric Here is a link to the page of the guy I mention that also has a podcast and reviews books. I haven't listed to any for awhile, but he was always high energy, and if he didn't like something, he did not hold back. https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...

message 41: by Sandra (new)

Sandra (whatlovelybooks) | 182 comments Next meeting will be April 30th, location tba. in case we have any thread lurkers.

message 42: by Sandra (new)

Sandra (whatlovelybooks) | 182 comments I would suggest meeting at Spider House (does not contain actual spiders). Let me know if that works for ya'll.

message 43: by Jen (new)

Jen | 268 comments I am up for that, as long as you promise there are no spiders.

message 44: by Eric (new)

Eric Sounds good to me. (I'm currently covered in spiders...)

message 45: by Jen (new)

Jen | 268 comments Anyone here yet?

message 46: by Sandra (new)

Sandra (whatlovelybooks) | 182 comments I'm on my way, be maybe 10 mins.

message 47: by Jen (new)

Jen | 268 comments Ok, grabbed a table.

message 48: by Sandra (new)

Sandra (whatlovelybooks) | 182 comments Had a great time, as usual. Next meeting will be May 21st at 2pm with location tba.

message 49: by Eric (new)

Eric Yes it was! Come out and have some coffee, mineral water or other assorted drinks with us! Want to stick with Spider house next month as well?

message 50: by Sandra (new)

Sandra (whatlovelybooks) | 182 comments Spider House works for me.
