Read A Song Of Ice And Fire 2016 discussion

I found this article today and I thought it would be interesting to discuss what the characters of ASoIaF would be like if they lived in XXIst century Earth. What countries do you think would suit them most? What would their professions be? What would be their favourite books, movies, TV shows, etc?

I somehow think the Hound would be a firefighter and Ramsey would definitely be a serial killer.

As for music, I think Renly would be setereotypically gay and probably listen to Beyonce, though somehow he also gives me Dancing Queen by Abba vibes. Aerys II would surely be a fan of Rammstein because of all the fire they use in their live shows. I'd go with jazz for Tyrion because it's different and it would be a shame if the ironborn didn't listen to metal. Also, for Tyrion's favourite books/movies I'd say LoTR.

I will assess Robert Baratheon.

I would think that Robert Baratheon would like music like Captain Tractor and Great Big Sea... Fun party stuff.

I think he would watch movies like Dumb and Dumber and The Hangover.

He would likely work as a DJ or a used car salesman but would likely not be very reliable and often be late for work.

Books? He would read the Walking Dead graphic novels if anything. But not much reading for him.

He would spend lots of time in Vegas with whores and strippers!

And I would still love Robert Baratheon!

Also, what does "AU" stand for?

Hahah, nice! I also think Robert would have a serious drinking problem... (not that he doesn't have it anyway) Hangovers would probably be the reason why he's always late for work.

AU means Alternate Universe. I assumed everyone knew that, I probably read too many fanfictions lol

Brienne would certainly be called "a dyke". I don't imagine a happy childhood for her here either, unfortunately. At least she'd have more luck with clothes, 'cause no one minds it when a woman wears pants and shirts.

I just remembered this super long (and also surprisingly very high quality) fanfiction where the Tyrells were farmers in South USA (maybe?) in the XIXth century, if I remember correctly, and Loras ran away 'cause they wanted to marry him off. Then he met Renly, who was some sort of gangster and they had all sorts of adventures in the wild West. I can't seem to escape from this idea about the Tyrells being farmers, though they're way too classy for that, Olenna would never marry a farmer. More like royalty in the UK, or VIPs in Washington.

I can definitely see Margery being the popular girl ala Gossip Girl. She would go to all the parties, constantly try to stay on top, mingle with dignitaries from other countries.

I'd go with Tyrion, he's that business boy, not so much as handsome but a rich guy who for sure probably is the one handling his father's business, and probably Jaime would be the one to take away all the credit that Cersei would make him to do that.

Tyrion would be more of a peace loving guy, addicted to alcohol but not bars.

I can't think anything more creative right now, finished the book so need to get to other books to get out of ASoIaF world.

Ria, Brienne would be into rugby and hockey as well.

Brianna, Margery would definitely be popular. The guys would want to be with her and The Young girls would want to be like her. She could even be part of beauty pagents.

Vishakha, I agree Tyrion would be into some form of business. He would do very well too.
