I just finished Undertow by Michael Buckley. It was the first book in a very promising series. I truly enjoyed it. What are you guys reading currently? Anything interesting that I might enjoy?

I can't decide if I am going to jump straight into the next book of the series or if I am going to give my mind a break from that world and read a stand alone novel in between.

What do you guys think I should do? Decisions, decisions.

message 2: by Victoria (new)

Victoria (victoriakahler) I like to keep the momentum going... On to the next book in the series!

message 3: by Mari (new)

Mari Carroll Just finished "A Mother's Reckoning; Living in the Aftermath of Tragedy" by the mom of one of the Columbine shooters. It was such a tough read, but she shed a lot of light on information that was never released. Believe it or not it was for my book club. Should be interesting conversation tonight! I usually do series books in order too, but I seem to lose interest after the second or third. I'll be checking out some of your reading lists for recommendations.

I have actually read a lot about the Columbine shootings. I would be really interested to read that in that perspective.

I actually decided to read something else in between because I really liked the series but toward the end I could just feel myself wanting to finish it and get it over with and I want to enjoy this series so I am taking a break from it and re-reading fifty shades. I know how people feel about that series but I actually like the storyline that is within it.

Currently Reading: The Choices We Make by Karma Brown. Pretty good so far. Simple writing for a powerful message. I'm loving it!

message 10: by Dana (new)

Dana (danaelaine) Currently I am reading Orphans its the first 4 books in the series, I am liking it so far, although only half way through book one. I have to admit, VCAndrews (and her ghost writer) is one of my favorite authors. After this I will be reading Runaways, the last book in the series. Very rarely will I read books in between a series, and if I do it's because the next book hasn't come out yet.

Sarah | 177 comments Mod
That's interesting. So basically you like knowing what started it and ended it? I'm the exact opposite. I hate when a series ends. I love reading the next one and the one after.

message 12: by Dana (new)

Dana (danaelaine) Yeah I need to read a series from start to finish with no interruptions in between if I can help it. If I love the series so much I'll reread it for sure another time but I get sucked into their world and don't want to miss anything by reading something else before I finish the series if I already have all the books.

message 13: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 177 comments Mod
Same here!

message 14: by Dana (new)

Dana (danaelaine) I also can't not finish a series, even if I don't like it I haven't ever been able to not read the next one because "it could be better"

message 15: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 177 comments Mod
Oh me too! I have a hard enough time not finishing a book once I start it. I really just have to be dead bored with it. There were even a couple that I forced myself to finish it. Haha! I would have to read paragraphs over and over again because I would start daydreaming it was so boring.

message 16: by Mari (new)

Mari Carroll Well I just went from dark to darker. Just finished reading The Storyteller by Jodi Picoult about a Nazi soldier. Read my review if you want more info. Definitely a TOUGH read in terms of graphic and difficult to comprehend content, but flawlessly written. My next read is going to be an old childhood favorite - Caddie Woodlawn. I just discovered there is a sequel to it so I want to refresh my memory on it before I start the new one (which is on order from ebay).

message 17: by Dana (new)

Dana (danaelaine) @Mari, I love Jodi Picoult and storyteller is definitely one of my favorites. Glad you enjoyed it! And you're right it's so deep and a tough read given the topic but totally worth the read

message 18: by Mari (new)

Mari Carroll She is definitely one of my favorite writers (except for The Tenth Circle). Just went to put her new one on hold at the library that comes out in October - there are already 98 holds!!!

message 19: by Dana (new)

Dana (danaelaine) Wow that's a lot of holds already! Lucky for me my wedding anniversary is in October so I've already told my husband that's what I want haha and he's such a good listener and loves enabling my reading addiction

message 22: by Mari (new)

Mari Carroll I've been a reading machine this past week...partly due to being sidelined by a horrible sore throat and cough. About to start on Necessary Lies by Diane Chamberlain. Had never heard of either the author or the book, but several of the ladies at our local "Read it Again" bookstore highly recommended it. Did 2 dark books, 3 light books, and this one seems a bit dark. All about balance :)

message 24: by Mari (new)

Mari Carroll Crazy...being sick I finished Necessary Lies today. Very interesting premise! Well written and excited that the author has written a bunch of other books. I did a review on the book if anyone is interested. I saw the movie Riding in Cars with Boys but did not read the book. Let us know how it is.

I will check out the review. I am currently chained to my desk making phone calls and telling people their furniture got pushed out for over a month so I am like the most hated person in Dallas right now. LOL!

I grew up absolutely loving that movie and just recently discovered it was a book. It has been pretty good so far!

Awesome! I am about to start 11/22/63 by Stephen King as well as watch the mini series they paired it with. I've only ever read one short story by him so it will be interesting to see how it plays out.

I just finished Bulletproof by Maci Bookout and Never Too Late by Amber Portwood. Currently Reading Crank by Ellen Hopkins and trying to finish A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas.

11/22/63 was a great book and the series was an awesome adaptation of it. I think you will be pleased!

Well I moved to Dallas a couple of years ago and went to The JFK museum. I became so interested in the whole mystery of everything so I think this will be a really cool adaptation of the story. I read the first couple of chapters a few years ago but I think now that it happened 30 minutes up the road and I have actually stood in the spot where he was shot and looked out the window he was shot out of it will hit me differently. Although, I am one of those believers of the JFK conspiracy.

Also for the series, I absolutely love James Franco so I'm excited to see him in this role.

Hi all.

I really like Leighann Dobbs cozy mysteries. I just started a new one 'The Murder at Lowry House: a Hazel Martin mystery', which is book #1 of a series. I'm having a hard time putting it down. It takes place in the late 1800's - early 1900's and it's about a widow who writes mysteries. Lovely little story to cuddle up with, a cup of hot chocolate at the ready. Review to follow when I complete the book.
