Two things from me:
1. Okay why are Varys and Illyro helping Tyrion exactly?
2. "A scale from the dragon that burned you as they say." So I guess that is Illyro's way off saying "The hair of the dog that bit you." I like that phrase and need to incorporate it into my conversations. Nobody will know what the hell I am taking about but it's good to keep people on their toes.

ps. now that they mention it, I can't wait to see Tyrion meet up with Dany and SLAY.
This is how I imagine Illyro, the Emperor from History of the World Part I.

What do they want? hmmm. Maybe it is just as simple as a better world.
I am thinking you are right Siya, that Tyrion is going to be a big help to Dany. Tyrion just needs a project to get him out of this funk.

Also, was anyone getting hungry while reading this chapter? I mean not for their food, some of it sounded weird. BUT my tummy is growling.

History of the World Part I is a great movie. Mel Brooks is great.

Why would Dany honor promises made by her brother?
Illyrio keeps the hands of a dead wife in his room? Now that's freaking creepy!
Yeah not so much a fan of Illyrio but I feel like he'll play a somewhat important role later on. He has his hands in everything!

I agree. He is like Varys.

I did not think of History of the world part one but I was thinking the same sort of thing.
I keep having to remind myself we went back and this happened before. I am really not liking how this book and the last one were split.

Sleep opened beneath him like a well, and he threw himself into it with a will and let the darkness eat him up.
This was absolutely beautiful.
And, Leslie, I'd never heard that saying about the dog, but I did notice how Martin used "as the dragon flies" at one point instead of "as the crow flies". Which reminds me, I love how Tyrion is so fascinated with dragons. And that dream he had with the two heads and one was laughing, while the other one was crying - could it possibly be that one head was his Targaryen blood and the other one the blood he shared with Jaime through their mother? It seems pretty far-fetched and I'm not sure I even believe the theory about Tyrion being half-Targraryen, but I couldn't help making the association.

I read that as Tyrion was of two minds about his family. In some ways he loves them even though they are terrible to him. In other ways he hates them for all the mean things they've done to him.
And I was also made sick by all the mentions of food. Good grief! That guy can't stop eating.
I agree that Iliryo seems to have a part to play in all of this before the story concludes. Like Tyrion, I wonder what Iliyro's motivation is for everything he is doing for Dany.
