"I am your monster" is repeated again. What does that mean? Is that just a common saying? Who is Griff really? What is his real name? What is his history?

If you ask me I think Tyrion's just being broody, so he said that in a context of like 'yeah haha I'm a monster hohoho I'm hideous and cunning don't you think I know what you've been saying behind my back'...but I'm your monster (to pledge his allegiance/ save his ass) something like that?
I think there's something fishy about Griff and Young Griff...Illyrio almost sounded affectionate towards Young Griff...I wonder why. And the lies Griff told Tyrion (who could spot them right away) maybe he's also running away from someone as well.
Totally don't know what's happening and and really curious to learn more of these newcomers!
The mystery of Illyrio deepens. Clearly there is some connection between him and Young Griff. Older Griff is hiding something about himself. Tyrion, however, seems to be getting back to normal. He not only spotted Griff's lies but also sensed that Griff will be trouble. Foreshadowing?
