The Best Book I read in JULY/AUGUST...

I had some delightful long afternoons in the tent reading during our pack trips this summer. For some reason we did really short mileage and just laid around like normal people on vacation!
Some of the good stuff I read:
Bread and Roses, Too by Katherine Paterson--Excellent historical fiction about the textile workers strikes in 1911.
The Green Glass Sea by Ellen Klages--A really moving book set in Los Alamos during WWII
Murder Is Bad Manners by Robin Stevens--A pair of young detectives in a 1930s English boarding school for girls. Surprisingly adult in some ways, but still suitable for older children.

You were remembering my climate, weren't you? Every place I've gone this summer has been very hot, but at home the heat has been running daily.

For the first time I read A Long Walk to Water: Based on a True Story.
I gave it 5 stars. It had me eager to find out what was going to happen next. It was informative and it affected me emotionally as I cried a few times while reading it.

I read that. It was very good, and I'm pretty sure I cried too :)

Well, given how inverted the seasons are here in SF, we might as well be Down Under. Things should start warming up here soon.
