This one is only good until the end of September.

Mission: Find and read one book with a word or words in the title that are somehow associated with the academic experience. For example:

Pencil- Carpenter's Pencil
Map- A Map of the World
Apple- Bad Apple
Notebook- The Notebook
Bus- Lilac Bus
Blackboard- The Blackboard Jungle
Principal- The Principal's Office
Teacher- Teacher Man
Division- A House Divided
Writing: The Freedom Writers Diary

No Children's Literature, please. Although, YA is welcome. As is Non-Fiction. I'm going to create a spot just under this for words related to academia as I think of them, but feel free to come up with your own. Finding the books is part of the fun! :D

I'm considering Boundary Lines as a possibility for this - as in, writing lines for punishment...? (Like in Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix.)

I read The Taker. It is a story of a high schooler studying for the SAT... rather disappointing despite actually reading it in only a few hours.

Sam F | 198 comments I just finished Dept. of Speculation by Jenny Offill - a very different style of writing, but I really enjoyed it. The main character is also a teacher.

Mindy Jones (mindyrecycles) Thanks, Sam. I have that as a TBR.

I liked World's Strongest Librarian. His life story is very engaging, and I loved how he talked about books and his family, and how he dealt with his illness. I wasn't so into the faith stuff and a couple of anecdotes that I think were meant to be funny were very obnoxious. But those are minor complaints and shouldn't stop anyone from reading this unique and entertaining memoir.

I changed my mind! I ended up reading First Year. It was a quick, fun read.

It sounds interesting! I will have to check it out. If have The Bad-Ass Librarians of Timbuktu: And Their Race to Save the World’s Most Precious Manuscripts on my TBR pile but I haven't had a chance to get to it yet.
