I'm spending this week reading Eighty Days by Matthew Goodman. It's the story of the 1889 race around the world between journalists Nellie Bly and Elizabeth Bisland. The trip itself was, of course, based on the exploits of Phileas Fogg in the Jules Verne novel . It's an interesting account of 19th Century travel and journalism not to mention the lives and roles of women. I'm quite enjoying it and learning all sorts of interesting things. It also led me to have curry for lunch today, inspired by Nellie Bly's discovery of the dish when she stayed in Sri Lanka. She enjoyed it so much she ate it whenever she could on the rest of her trip.

Julie | 125 comments I just finished reading when the moon was ours and loved it. I think that she is a local author too. I haven't been reading much since that book ended. I loved that it had a transboy and family :) it was very magical book too with glass pumpkins.

Robin M. | 28 comments My tbr pile is huge right now I barely know where to start. I'm in the mood for something light so I think I'm going to go for 1636 : the chronicles of Dr. Gribbleflotz / Kerryn Offord & Rick Boatright. Dr. Gribbleflotz was a character created because they needed a way to get baking powder for biscuits once the modern supplies ran out in Grantville. He is an alchemist and nothing ever goes wrong in experiments involving chemicals and the formula for gunpowder. My bus book is the new Half-Moon Hallow book by Molly Harper.

Julie | 125 comments I started another book while now being in school --The continent and OMG I highly recommend it and its not even out. I saw the reviews for it and I didn't believe the hype.

Susan (yetanothersusan) | 203 comments I am currently being underwhelmed by Emma Donoghue's The Wonder. It is just moving so slow!

Sounds exciting. Who is the author?
