Rachel Brand (pixieauthoress) Since I started this book last night, I thought I'd go ahead and start the thread for this buddy read!

Inescapable (Road to Kingdom #1) by Nancy Mehl

Lizzie Engel is used to running away. At eighteen, she left her Mennonite hometown, her family, and her faith with plans never to return. Five years later, Lizzie finds she'll have to run again. False accusations at her job, a stalker, and a string of anonymous threatening letters have left her with no other options. This time, however, her escape is back to Kingdom, her hometown.

As Lizzie becomes reacquainted with Kingdom, she realizes she may not have left her Mennonite roots and her faith as firmly in the past as she thought. She draws on the support of Noah Housler, an old friend, as she hides out and attempts to plan her next steps.

When it becomes painfully clear that the danger has followed Lizzie to Kingdom, suspicions and tensions run high, and she no longer knows who to trust. With her life and the lives of those she loves at risk, Lizzie will have to run one last time--to a Father whose love is inescapable.

Rachel Brand (pixieauthoress) I'm speeding through this one a lot faster than I expected! I'm already halfway through It's certainly an easy read. Who else is joining in with this discussion?

I'm trying my best to catch up! XD I'm only a couple of chapters in, since work's been keeping me busy. But I have all day tomorrow and Tuesday to catch up!

I'm on chapter seven. Lizzie's father sounds like a real character. I haven't even met the man yet and he already annoys me. I wonder if he'll have any redeeming qualities or why Anna even married him in the first place if he was so mean-spirited. Maybe that came about later in the marriage...

I'm also interested in seeing where the stalker comes into play in all this...

Rachel Brand (pixieauthoress) I felt like the situation with Lizzie's father was dealt with really well. I often come across stern father figures in Amish fiction, but in this case he clearly was abusive to his family, and the book doesn't brush over this. I don't know if I could have returned to the community if I were Lizzie, given her past experiences, even if I did have someone stalking me!

So I finished. Really loved it. I thought I was reading about the Amish rather than the Mennonites since this group was so strict!

Haha! That's what I was thinking, too! But at least they seemed to be changing for the better toward the end of the book.
