Welcome to the 3rd Annual Brain to Books Cyber Convention and Book Expo 2017.

We're changing our format for 2017. Forget everything we've done in the last two years. Come on in, make yourself at home. Talk books. Lounge. Whatever :)

As our authors sign up (opening 1 October 2016 ), Brain to Books adds their profile to the Author Showcase where you can browse their books and they can share what's coming.

Belinda Clemons (belindaclemons) | 64 comments I loved last years convention I found out about great authors and even won some books. I really hope I'm able to sign up for the jackpot prize this time for some reason last years wouldn't let me. I can't wait to meet more new authors.

As a member of the team I'm very eager to get started. As an author I'm thrilled with the opportunities B2B is giving to authors and I look forward to meeting and chatting to new readers.

**Hey Belinda** :)

Ilana Maletz | 25 comments Hi, I'm new to this site, but I did just recently sign up to be part of the Brains to Books community. Still trying to get my head around it all. I'm looking at the discussion groups here and see that many genres have a specific discussion going. Is anyone in this group interested in starting up a discussion for those of us who have written historical fiction?

I might be since my latest release is historical fiction Detour Detour by Devorah Fox . It's set in 1993 and the action revolves around an actual event.

message 14: by Ilana (new)

Ilana Maletz | 25 comments Hi Devorah,

What event does your book center on? Mine takes place mostly in Northern Arizona between the years of 1898-1945, and focuses on major inflection points in the life of a Hopi medicine woman and her family. Anyhow, if you're game, I am.

It's a visit that then-president Bill Clinton made to Hyde Park, NY for a "Town Hall." The story isn't about the president, it's about the effect that his announced arrival had on people in Hyde Park. BTW, I lived in AZ for about 19 years, Tucson and Phoenix.

message 16: by Ilana (new)

Ilana Maletz | 25 comments Hi Devorah,
I just checked out your link to your book, it looks really good, I put it on my want to read list :) I can see you are much further along in this publishing process than I am. I'm going to check out some of your book marketing links soon. Cha'risa's Gift is my first novel, and it's been an interesting journey, to say the least. I thought it was a big deal to finish the book, never realizing all l I was going to need to learn about marketing! Honestly, some days I even find navigating discussions on Goodreads a challenge. For instance, I realized I have no idea how to actually get one of these showcases for historical fiction started! Do you?

message 17: by Devorah (new)

Devorah Fox (devorahfox) | 40 comments Ilana, you made my day. Thank you. You're right about marketing. I spend more time on marketing related tasks than writing. And I'm still getting my arms around Goodreads. I think to start a discussion thread you go to Community at the top of the page, click to Discussions, then click on Start a New Book Discussion at the left under the page title. Then just start one. But I haven't tried it myself so I'm not speaking from experience. ;-)
I'll look for your book.

message 18: by Ilana (new)

Ilana Maletz | 25 comments Thanks for the tip on starting a book discussion, but when I looked more closely at the showcases, I could see they were something different than a discussion. They featured people's books in that genre. Still have no idea how to be part of that, or how to add historical fiction as a showcase.

Glad to know I made your day :)

message 19: by Devorah (new)

Devorah Fox (devorahfox) | 40 comments I don't know what a showcase is. Could you send me the link to what you're looking at and maybe I can figure it out.

message 20: by Ilana (new)

Ilana Maletz | 25 comments when you click on the title of this discussion it brings you to this page: ttps://www.goodreads.com/group/show/154267-b...

If you scroll down there is a discussion going on that is showcasing books by genres (part of the brain to books fairgrounds?) Anyhow, I'm curious how that works, and how one might be able to add historical fiction to this list.

message 21: by Devorah (new)

Devorah Fox (devorahfox) | 40 comments Oh, I see. Yes, Brain to Books is an online book festival/convention. 2017 will be its 3rd year. I did it last year and will participate this year. Contact the organizer, Angela Chrysler, for info. She's on Goodreads. You can also learn more on the B2BCYCON Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/95966...

message 22: by Ilana (new)

Ilana Maletz | 25 comments Can I ask what ways you tried participating last year, and what you thought worked best?

message 23: by Devorah (new)

Devorah Fox (devorahfox) | 40 comments I had a "booth" which IIRC was a discussion thread on Goodreads. It was my first time, I wasn't all that familiar with Goodreads, and didn't have much success. This year it will be on Facebook and I'm more familiar with that..

Hello, Widad, and Devorah!

We currently have a poll on Facebook for genre voting. If someone volunteers for Historical Fiction Genre Manager, then we can launch a full collection of events around your genre. https://www.facebook.com/groups/95966...

In the meantime, we recommend selecting a primary genre such as suspense, thriller, romance, fantasy, YA, etc. to categorize your book if you are able.

This season we are expanding CyCon across the internet. We have takeovers on Facebook, booths (Conversation Threads) on Goodreads, Blog Hops, Genre Tours, Panel Discussions, Contests... There's a lot to choose from to meet your marketing needs.

You can view our brochure here: https://braintobooks.com/wp-content/u...

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. You can email us at info@braintobooks.com

Blog hop basics: Set up a nice page or post on the website you're using for the hop with the convention graphics, spotlighting something like a story or an excerpt and book, plus any giveaways you're planning.

You mean on Goodreads? You have to save the photos as part of your profile so you can insert the img link. I'm not totally certain you "have to" but that's what I did and it seemed to be the easiest.
Go to your author page and you'll see "see more photos" under your image. There on the right will be an option to "add more photos" Do that and then use the "copy image address" option when you right click to get the address to insert into the img link inside the post.

Wordy I know but hopefully helpful. :)

I have posted a how-to for getting images into Goodreads posts in the files section of the Facebook group. Easy copy and paste html code and instructions on how to find image links.

Participants can add their books, yes. Click the bookshelf link, and then do a search in the box on the left of that page. Then click the "add to group" button.
