Everyone I know that has read this book has loved it, so I'll nominate Finnikin of the Rock. Plus, the cover has red, white, and blue!
At the age of nine, Finnikin is warned by the gods that he must sacrifice a pound of flesh to save his kingdom. He stands on the rock of the three wonders with his friend Prince Balthazar and Balthazar's cousin, Lucian, and together they mix their blood to safeguard Lumatere.
But all safety is shattered during the five days of the unspeakable, when the king and queen and their children are brutally murdered in the palace. An impostor seizes the throne, a curse binds all who remain inside Lumatere's walls, and those who escape are left to roam the land as exiles, dying by the thousands in fever camps.
Ten years later, Finnikin is summoned to another rock--to meet Evanjalin, a young novice with a startling claim: Balthazar, heir to the throne of Lumatere, is alive. This arrogant young woman claims she'll lead Finnikin and his mentor, Sir Topher, to the prince. Instead, her leadership points them perilously toward home. Does Finnikin dare believe that Lumatere might one day rise united? Evanjalin is not what she seems, and the startling truth will test Finnikin's faith not only in her but in all he knows to be true about himself and his destiny.
In a bold departure from her acclaimed contemporary novels, Printz Medalist Melina Marchetta has crafted an epic fantasy of ancient magic, feudal intrigue, romance, and bloodshed that will rivet you from the first page.

Oh my, I've just had a quick scan of my to read shelf and I've already got 7 books I'd consider nominating that was only a few pages in lol
Hahaha....I only looked at the first 100 pages. If I looked at the whole think, I'd never make a decision!

I think this book has the potential to be an AWESOME discussion book based on the premise.

Also, it appears I'm out of books to read with at least 60% red cover-age.
Hi Julie, sorry but your nomination can't be accepted for a couple of reasons. 1) The cover is neither red, white or blue 2) It is book #4 in a series.

In Jordan's prize-winning debut, prejudice takes many forms, both subtle and brutal. It is 1946, and city-bred Laura McAllan is trying to raise her children on her husband's Mississippi Delta farm—a place she finds foreign and frightening. In the midst of the family's struggles, two young men return from the war to work the land. Jamie McAllan, Laura's brother-in-law, is everything her husband is not—charming, handsome, and haunted by his memories of combat. Ronsel Jackson, eldest son of the black sharecroppers who live on the McAllan farm, has come home with the shine of a war hero. But no matter his bravery in defense of his country, he is still considered less than a man in the Jim Crow South. It is the unlikely friendship of these brothers-in-arms that drives this powerful novel to its inexorable conclusion.
The men and women of each family relate their versions of events and we are drawn into their lives as they become players in a tragedy on the grandest scale. As Kingsolver says of Hillary Jordan, "Her characters walked straight out of 1940s Mississippi and into the part of my brain where sympathy and anger and love reside, leaving my heart racing. They are with me still.

Not sure - I mostly read on a Kindle and checked that I can buy it and I can although it is a tad expensive!
Sarah - I was waiting to see if you nominated that one as it was one of my possible choices. That helps cut my list down :)

July 4th is a pretty big holiday for our American readers; the day that celebrates when the USA was no longer a moody teenager, became an adult and us over at Great Britain didn't need to look after you any more ;o)
(this may, or may not, be the real version of events)
Both the GB and USA flags are made up of Red, White & Blue colours.
This month's nominations should be of book covers that have either Red OR White OR Blue as their main colour (at least 60%)
- Please make sure to include book link or book cover link. This can be done by clicking on the 'add book / author' link above the comment box. If not possible (because you're using the mobile app), then make sure you include both book title and author.
Your nomination will not count if not in either of these formats.
- Please refrain from nominating any book that has already been a group read or scheduled to read as part of the Goodreads Choice Award Book Club. These can be found at https://www.goodreads.com/group/books...
- Please do not nominate a second (or later) book in a series read. Your nomination will be not counted if you do.
- Only one nomination per person will be accepted.
- Nominations will close on Sunday 25th, 5pm GMT and will be followed by a poll.
