Julia I'll admit that (I think) I am excited about this MOVIE. But do we really need a script? Are we really going to keep reading it once the DVD comes out? Won't we just learn the movie by heart all on our own?
I loathed Cursed Child (although I generously gave it three stars...need to change that), but I really don't want any more Harry Potter. I love what I have, what I had for most of my life. But I kinda just want to move on. I don't want to be a forty-year-old woman saying, "Well, I guess I better go buy Harry Potter #17, just so that I'll know what happens next...." I need new! I need fresh! I hate that I feel like I need to read this.
All was well. That's it. The end.

CORRECTION: I went with my gut and changed my Cursed Child rating to two stars.

Julia Just found out that there will actually be FIVE Fantastic Beasts films. -_- I am going to be so old when this is over!

Monika M. Five...? Are they joking? :-s Is this for real?? :O

Julia Is the script word for word to the movie? I haven't read it but I have seen the film.

It is, but I wish they'd left in the deleted and extended scenes you know have to exist.

Absolutely! Needs deleted scenes!!!

Brittain *Needs a Nap and a Drink* For me, I love having the screenplay. Sometimes, the emotions are difficult to pick up in a movie or the words come out too fast and it is entertaining to be able to read what was being said. Also, it opens up the window for a little more analysis instead of watching the movie over and over.

Julia I read this now (bought it used), but I found it was just pointless to read. The emotions and jokes fell flat, and I am not a fan of present-tense descriptions.

Thomas Klakegg-Thorp I honestly think that it's interesting to be able to read them, but then again I'm not really a fan of movies. I wish I had the opportunity to read every mainstream movie instead of watching them. I get that it's not for everyone, but I don't see why they shouldn't publish them as long as someone appreciates them. As long as it doesn't hurt you, it really shouldn't matter to you, in my eyes.

This is the only movie I can think of where the SCRIPT was actually released. Just because it is in the Harry Potter universe, it seemed like there was an obligation to read the script.

Julia I think my biggest issue is that when it was announced that the script would be released, I didn't feel excited--I felt obligated. I have been excited for every BOOK and every movie (even if the movies usually fell short), and I was super excited for the Fantastic Beasts movie (which I think was an excellent idea and a great film on its own). But when Cursed Child was announced, I was disappointed. I love Harry, and I didn't want anything to harm the beautiful "All was well" from Deathly Hallows. For my birthday, my words to my parents were, "I guess I should ask you to pre-order the Cursed Child book for me," because I really wasn't excited about a play I would never see about more conflict happening to my beloved Harry. I read it in a day not because I wanted to, but again because it was another obligation, and I didn't enjoy it at all (but that's another discussion). My point is that, sure, a script may be fun to read, but I just can't make myself excited about it. It just feels like something I needed to read, not something I wanted to read.

Anna I didn't really like Cursed Child and I just kind of see it as a fan theory which I know doesn't really work, but to me it's more like a (quite bad) what if. You know. I bought the script for Fantastic Beasts because I really liked the movie and I don't really like re-watching movies so I really like being able to read my favorite parts. I really liked the cover aswell which I know shouldn't really matter but i really like it and I want to support the Fantastic Beasts franchise. I agree that it was unnecessary to publish the script for Fantastic Beasts in this way but I also think a lot of fans probably enjoyed it (myself included, though I have not looked into what many others thought of it so I can't say for sure). That is my opionion but I can completely see why you didn't really like that they published the script and I understand that you want fresh, trust me I do too. So yeah I don't know how to end this. So I will end with... all was well.

Yeah, from what I've heard, Cursed Child sounds like a really bad Jo-approved theatrical version of that old My Immortal fanfic. And I refuse to watch or read it, since I consider it not canon.

Fantastic Beasts was good, though.

Interesting to hear that you don't like re-watching movies... in that case, I can give some merit to a published script. I am the opposite though--I will watch a movie over and over again until I know it by heart, and then I watch it again, hearing the words in my head.

Samantha Thilkey I liked the Fantastic Beasts script a lot and I loved Cursed Child. I don't watch adult movies at this point in my life though (three young children) so maybe that has something to do with it.

It is the ORIGINAL copy so not exactly word for word but close enough. Can't wait for the next movies!!!!!!!

I think it was word-for-word... I know the movie pretty well. Would have liked it with the deleted scenes, though.

I believe that the DVD has the deleted scenes.

Yes, it does. I mean that it would have been nice to see the deleted scenes in the script. For instance, is it canon that Jacob's fiancee Mildred dumped him when he didn't get the loan?

I think that actually happened. It was included in a behind the scenes book that I read and I wish the book included the deleted scenes too.

I think we could get into a whole canon debate here... I personally feel like Mildred was almost canon, but since it was never in the book or movie, it shouldn't count (in my opinion). For instance, it is not canon that Hermione has a little sister, even though J.K. Rowling had originally planned for this character but never actually went through with it.

Yuri I gave this one star, this isn't a true book and it even won best book in the category Fantasy...

The movie might be good, but this 'book' is ridiculous.

I thought it was ridiculous too that it won “Best Fantasy Book.” I gave it four stars because it was a great movie and story, but it was hardly an amazing “book.” I think scripts need to be included in a totally different category... we could vote for Best Fantasy Novel and Best Fantasy Script. I didn’t think it did amazingly in the script category either though, because the jokes fell flat and it lacked the actors’ flair altogether.

Zina Ridiculous that this GARBAGE won best fantasy.

Julia Zina wrote: "Ridiculous that this GARBAGE won best fantasy."

I agree that it should not have even been nominated, yet alone won! I was really expecting The Book of Dust to make the list, but I had to do a write-in nomination (which I see many other people did, too).

Sean M. was very strange indeed to read this one as a script.
