Remember, before you move on to this lesson, go and complete lesson one. Thank-you :)

So, French can be a bit confusing when it comes to certain grammatical things or things involving different tenses.
Now there are two different types of words/phrases- formal and informal/plural. I'm not going to talk to much about that concept in this lesson, however I will give you a basic understanding of the meanings.

Formal is, basically, the version you would use when speaking with a close family member/close friend.

Informal is the version you would use when speaking to someone you don't know all that well and/or numerous people.

We are here to talk about saying How are you?
As you should know after completion of Lesson One, How are you? is Comment allez-vous?
Informal version.
You say Comment allez-vous? when speaking to
A. A group of people, or at least two people.
B. A stranger
C. Someone older than you, until they tell you that you can address them with the formal version which is...

Comment vas-tu?
Formal version.
You say Comment vas-tu when speaking to
A. Someone who has given you permission to say that to them.
B. A close friend/family member.

Now for this lesson I would like you to put below 2 times that you would use Comment allez-vous and 3 times that you would use Comment tas-vu?

Example: Comment vas-tu, brother?
Comment allez-vous, everyone?

If anything was confusing, remember to ask in the QUESTIONS thread, NOT in the comments below.
Thanks~Merci!

Divya Comment allez vous, Uncle?
Comment allez vous, grandmere? (Grandmere is french for grandma, isn't it? )

Comment vas-tu, sis?
Comment vas-tu, Rose? (a close friend)
Comment vas-tu, Alyal? (Can I call you that, Ally?)

I hope that it is correct:)

Yes, Grandma is Grandmere in French and yes you can call me that :D
All are correct!

Natasha | 50 comments Lol everything in the lesson is right, but you've got all the 'formals' and 'informals' the wrong way around- 'tu' is informal (for friends) and 'vous' is formal :P You explained it really well though!

Comment allez vous tante?
Comment allez vous monsieur? (Let's say a stranger I meet on the sidewalk)

Comment vas-tu Maggie?
Comment vas-tu frère?
Comment vas-tu Emma?

Natasha | 50 comments Comment allez-vous, monsieur ?
Comment allez-vous, Votre Majesté ?

Comment vas-tu, maman ?
Comment vas-tu, papa ?
Comment vas-tu, Abi ?

Just to say, family members usually address each other as 'tu', regardless of age; so a child/ teenager will address a parent or grandparent as 'tu' (this is generally the case from what I've seen, but I'm sure there are exceptions depending on the family) :)
