Hello, everyone! <3 Welcome to the group! I'm very excited to be part of this initiative, and I hope we can do something together to advance the movement to have more diversity in literature!

My name is Aimal. I'm 20, and I live in New York City, but was born and raised in Pakistan until the age of 17. I read a vast variety of genres, but my reading taste mostly revolves around YA fantasy. I love me a dark thriller, and anti-heroes are my weakness!

message 2: by Laura (new)

Laura (lanakilah) Well hi! I'm Laura and I'm 22. I'm from Spain but I've been living abroad since I was 17.

I read mostly YA fantasy, science fiction, and a bit of contemporary... as well as NA. I also enjoy thrillers/crimes/suspense.

Please don't ask me for my favorite book or character because I have a hundred (and I could name them all) :'D

message 3: by Haniya (new)

Haniya (itsmehaniya) Hiiii guys! My name is Haniya! Im 16 turning 17 next month and living in Pakistan! :) I mostly read YA contemporary alot! But i still enjoy fantasy! Talk about hot fictional book boyfriends! <3 Cant wait to read with everyone!

message 4: by Brooke (new)

Brooke Banks (thebrokebookbank) Hello all! I'm Brooke. I'm 26 and living in Arizona (USA).

I read almost every genre and age range. My weakness will always be Fantasy and Sci-Fi though. I prefer my romance as a subplot in other genres unless it's Contemporary QUILTBAG. I'm also a sucker for the darker and creepy reads.

I'm so happy to be apart of this!

message 5: by Tes (new)

Tes Lewis (theappalachianbookworm) Hey everyone! I'm Tes and I'm 25 years old. I am proudly Appalachian (from a small town in southeast Kentucky). I read pretty much anything that sounds good to me although I do have a soft spot for fantasy, YA and romance. Glad to be a part of the group.

Can't wait to get started!

Genre wise majority of my reads are fantasy or contemporary based! But I am not closed off to other genres :)

I'm a huge library reader so I hope my library has all the great books we're going to read.

message 19: by chelsea (new)

chelsea reads (chaolwestfall) Hey, I'm Chelsea. I'm 20 and from New Zealand.

I primarily read YA fantasy and science fiction. I rarely read contemporaries because I can't stand romance (but they help me out of slumps - sometimes you gotta make sacrifices).

I'm very excited to be apart of this group and read more diversely.

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey guys!
I'm Verena, 21, from Austria.
I don't really have a favourite genre, it really depends on my mood. But I do read a lot of crime fiction. Recently I've started to read more and more YA fantasy.

When I'm not reading I'm studying to become a teacher for English and geography.

I wish there were more books (and TV shows and movies and video games and ...) featuring characters that are on the asexual spectrum.

message 21: by Olivia (new)

Olivia (Stories For Coffee) (storiesforcoffee) Hello! Welcome to the group! I'm Liv (Olivia) and I am 19 living about twenty minutes from NYC! My favorite genres are contemporaries, historical fictions, and fantasy genres!

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

I tend to read whatever catches my attention. And lately that's been mostly ya scifi/fantasy.

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

Howdy! I'm Guinevere, 31 and live in the US. I'm Afro-Latinx(Afro-Cuban to be specific) and kind of an alternative Black girl. I'm not close minded when it comes to books, or at least not anymore, so I'm open to nearly everything.

I love NA, but started in YA so I'll always have a soft place for it. SFF are my faves(fantasy of all kinds, soft science fiction, horror, etc.) but I do like romance and contemporary that isn't romantic too. Also blog about inclusivity in books, and read mainly inclusive books on Twinja Book Reviews, where I blog with my sis!

I'm Tika, a 27 year old melanin goddess from Washington DC. New Adult is my favorite genre, but I am still a huge fan of both YA and Adult, as well as some middle grade. I don't know about you guys, but I am beyond ready to dive into some diverse reads and to share our opinions with the rest of our community!

message 36: by Jamie (new)

Jamie (jamiesigal) Hi all - my name is Jamie and I think I'm probably the oldest here at 43. I was born and currently live in Toronto in Canada, but I have also lived in the US for almost ten years, as well as in Israel for one year back in the 90's. I read anything and everything - tons of sci-fi and graphic novels, fantasy, horror, some YA if it really catches my interest, and a great deal of literary fiction as well.

I'm interested in this group because, admittedly, most of what I read is written by white males, so I'm looking for some good recommendations to help keep expanding my world-view through books. I also did a year's focus on post-Colonial lit when I was in school, so I can probably recommend some good ones as well once I see what direction the group is headed.

I love reading YA fantasy, contemporary, romance, sci-fi, and mystery! Some of my favorite books are the Throne of Glass series, the A Court of Thorns and Roses series, The Wrath and The Dawn, the Harry Potter series, Me Before You, The Great Gatsby, and Anna and the French Kiss.

Coming from two different heritages (Iran/Philippines), I think it's very important and influential to read about books with diversity. It opens up your horizons to different people and countries and changes the literary world in a positive way! Can't wait to meet new people on here and see where this goes!

There's nothing that shines more than diversity and good representation in the middle of the vast ocean of books with flawless cishet white able-bodied characters that everybody writes and reads. I'm so excited to join this group and start reading more diverse books and discuss them with others!
