Jason (jasondenness) | 1426 comments Well it's the scariest month of the year and this month we are reading what is considered to be one of Stephen King's scariest books....So who is gonna give it a go?

I was planning on reading Romeo and Juliet next but I might put that aside...again....and dust off my copy of this one and give it a go.

Tinka | 495 comments I'll sit this one out, not a big fan of It actually. But have fun, try the Stephen King Drinking Game to keep you entertained lol

Poor Shakespeare is neglected for an evil Clown Thingy

Jason (jasondenness) | 1426 comments Tinka too scared?

Whats the drinking game?

Found my copy of this book, over 1000 pages, reckon we might not get many takers for this one. :-)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1426 comments unless Tinka has a shot after each page. 1116 shots...I better get in the drink.

Tinka | 495 comments Okay, this is the game created by the Nostalgia Critic for his It Movie Review a couple of years back (you need to check his videos out if you don't know them)

When to drink:

- An unexplained supernatural force without any explanation or justification exists
- A child with magic powers (Bonus Round: Powers are psychic)
- Story is taking place in Maine
- Setting takes place in a rural small town at some point (Bonus Round: The town has some dark secret)
- Villain without any redeeming qualities (Bonus Round: Childhood Bullies)
- Details teeter on the perverted (Bonus Round: Children are involved. Gross, but totally King)
- Racism
- An atheist
- Evil religious people who are try to teach morals, especially when it comes to the evil that is sex (Bonus Round: Said people die)
- Flashbacks (can be skipped in It because most of the book/movie is a flashback)
- Depraved Homosexuals (Bonus Round: They die)
- Animals being hurt or killed
- A major character is either addicted to drugs/alcohol or recovering
- A major character is a writer/poet/storyteller (Bonus Round: It's the main character)
- Reference to another King work (Bonus Round: Multiple References)
- Internal Monologue which slowy becomes a Stream of Consciousness
- A sociologist appears to tell all about the consequences about the disaster at hand (Bonus Round: The sociologist dies)
- Gratuitous Violence (Bonus Round #1: Body Violence, Bonus Round #2: Eye Scream)
- (Only in Movies: A cameo by Stephen King)
- Extremely violent bullies (Bonus Point: Being a bully is part of the main villain's backstory)
- Cool older character to help the main character (Bonus #1: Cool character has psychic powers, Bonus #2: Dies either during the climax or is nonchalantly mentioned to have died after the conclusion of the main story)

Have fun and cheers!

Jason (jasondenness) | 1426 comments Hmmm that seems really difficult, the more you drink the more difficult it will be to understand when you need to drink. I reckon you need a referee to sit with you whilst you play.

Jason (jasondenness) | 1426 comments well had some violent bullies and a minor character was a writer. and a dead homosexual. so I've had a few drinks.

Jason (jasondenness) | 1426 comments 100 pages in and it is interesting, some very in-depth background on the characters. A small but of horror at the beginning but so far not scary really. Was hoping for more seeing as this has scared so many.

Tinka | 495 comments I never got why people find it scary to be honest. Then again, books or movies in general don't really scare me.

Jason (jasondenness) | 1426 comments I'm the same Tinka, I can still usually see why a person is scared. Have you read Cujo?, I know a few who didn't manage it cos it scared them too much, whilst reading it I could see why.

Tinka | 495 comments Nope not Cujo.

It's also the thing with horror movies, I have friends super scared of those and I'm like "yeah whatever" I watch these for fun

Jason (jasondenness) | 1426 comments Maybe we are psychopaths. How many cats have you nailed to trees this week?

Tinka | 495 comments None. But I might threatened some people with violence.

Jason (jasondenness) | 1426 comments oh right...me neither, I like cats?

Jason (jasondenness) | 1426 comments Well 150 pages in and I think the introduction is finally over. woooo, lets get this scary stuff going.

Jason (jasondenness) | 1426 comments reached page 450. gotta admit this book isn't grabbing my attention as King's books have in the past. I keep finding myself stuff to do instead of reading. Did 10 pages earlier and then stopped to give the dog a bath, he wasn't happy about that. :-)

Jason (jasondenness) | 1426 comments Mr King has created a character who is a nasty fella, I reckon something bad is going to happen to him. His name is Koontz. Wonder if that is a reference to Dean Koontz ?

Jason (jasondenness) | 1426 comments 850 pages in and finally the kids are going to confront IT. I was wondering if they would ever get to this point.

Jason (jasondenness) | 1426 comments wooo reached page 1000, things are getting tense now. :-)

Tinka | 495 comments Wow. Still on it? That's the spirit lol

Jason (jasondenness) | 1426 comments haha, been easily distracted by other books.

Tinka | 495 comments I have the same with Vanity Fair it's more like a chore to read it

Jason (jasondenness) | 1426 comments I wouldn't say its a chore, the book is long but after moaning about all the back and forth in time, I can see how it works at the end.

Jason (jasondenness) | 1426 comments Wooo I finished it at last. top book, gave it 4 stars. You can't help but admire King for producing this.
