So to complete the challenge read at least 3 of the following categories by November 2nd, which is the Day of the Dead and the end of this challenge.

Here October is known for Halloween, which is part of Hallowtide, 3 three days including, the eve of all hallows days (Halloween), all saints day (also Samhain or All hallows), and the Day of the Dead (all souls day)

For Halloween we are going to do Halloween creatures, one of any of these below or if you have a Halloween creature (can be done as a costume) that is not below, let us know the creature and that it can be a Halloween creature.
1. Vampire or Werewolf
2. Angel or Demon
3. Witch or Zombie
4. Reaper or Ghost
5. Other, Gargoyle, Superhero, etc...
Mix any of the above for a maximum of five books towards the challenge and no repeat creatures.

Halloween
6. Read a book where someone eats a sweet or a desert is on the cover.
7. Read a book where someone gets sick or over indulges. A favorite after holiday tradition of kids.

8. A book where there is a feast, dinner, celebration. All Saints Day or Samhain both have a feast and food associate with it.
9. Darkening of the days. All the day are celebrated from sunset to sunset. Samhain end of the harvest and known for the darkening of the days. Read a book that takes place mostly at night or sunset factors prominently.
10. For the Day of the Dead. Read a book where a cemetery, underworld, candles, memories, or ghost play a roll.
11. Read a book with ghost or spirits play a part in the plot.

Bonus 12th
October is the 10th day but named as the 8th month, Octa- eight, it is also when the leaves turn in most of the north so...
Read a book that is the 8th or 10th in the series or has a cover that is primarily red, yellow, or brown or a combination of those.

Levels
Books read
3-4 Pixie
5-6 Elf
7-8 Shifter

Am loving Reaver at the minute. Loved all the other Lords of Deliverance and Demonica books, so I knew this one wouldn't disappoint! x

I've added underworld to Day of the Dead, the book I used has a cemetery though so matches with the first definition too.

Amy do you want to move this topic to the Howl-o-ween special folder?
or maybe you could post a challenges topic in that folder with links to current challenges and this challenge. ... just an idea.

List are already started here so a link would be better. I'll put it in over there. Or if you can move it to a different folder would the links still hold? I have a few link to it. I did post a subject and link to the challenge over there.

Yes, most people in this group do read a bunch of Halloween type creatures. I think this one is a little more ghost centered. But you can choose which of your book fit the categories and how many of the categories you want to fill. Try to challenge yourself.

I don't usually read ghost stories and will have to read another one (or reaper which again is not something I read often) that is if I don't want to substitute another creature. Here lies the challenge for me.

I would say the only thing you shouldn't be putting in the first 5 categories would be those not used as costumes, like psychics. So, I wouldn't put in Clean by Alex Hughes as they are all human (psychics not creatures). Also no repeat creatures for the first 5. You could break them down from what I posted differently like, 1. Vampire 2. Werewolf 3. Angel 4. Demon 5. Zombie, It might be more of a challenge to stick with the suggestions though.

The ones with foods and sweets can be hard as you frequently don't know ahead of time if there is a scene with a feast or food, that is unless you've read it before... Or the one with someone getting sick or over indulging, . The best you can do there is hope or find a cover or find it in the description.

Did that help?

Ashley | 25 comments Ye Thanks Ami I will try sorting books based on Different characters where the Main lead can be a Vamp, Angel or something else. IT would be easier this way......right now I am reading The Hammer of Thor which has Magnus as a einherji so this counts as Halloween realted book ig.

It is the Day of the Dead, or All Souls Day, and the last day of the challenge. I just put my 12th book in, using one bonus and skipping the sweets.

Whenever I think of this day, I think of the movie, The Book of Life.
