What’s buzzin’, cousin? Hey, why am I feeling so 1940s at the moment?! Did anyone happen to notice where I left my tweed coat and fedora hat...?

Oh, and what I meant to say is... See you here on Friday. There won't be shortage of Martinis and Manhattans because Friday is Murder Between the Pages launch day! And there will be fun and games and shiny prizes!

Meanwhile you can click yourself to Murder Between the Pages page on Josh's website and read the fantastic excerpt (two first chapters) of the upcoming novella: http://www.joshlanyon.com/the_works.html

Come back on Friday to check out all the killer-diller, doll dizzy, khaki wacky fun going on here! :-D

Thank you in advance for organising the festivities and thanks also for pointing out the first two chapters. I hadn't seen them.

Ame | 1744 comments I'm trying to pace myself and not click. I bought the book months ago and one would think I could wait few more days.

Haldis | 1288 comments I love killer-diller khaki-wacky....
Oh, and I borrowed your fedora....
Haven't seen your coat.

So, listen up, everyone! I have excellent news about our prizes — Josh just gave us NINE audio codes for her books to give away in this party.

Make sure you'll be here on Friday to take part in the games and fun and the drawing of those audio codes!

Anne | 6816 comments Where is the Pill Box hat? Or maybe that is later?

I always wanted one since Bob Dylan sang about " your new leopard skin pill box hat".

We were too seldom hats, really. One of the most sensual sentences in another song is Joe Cocker's " you can keep your hat on". Isn't that great?

Oh, cool! Custard doughnuts! Thank you, Mymymble!

I have a fond hat memory. When I was about 17 I traveled around Europe by train with my best friend one summer for a month. Interrailing I think it's called. Anyways, we had our backpacks on and when the trip proceeded my backpack started to fill with books and poster rolls I bought along the way. AND I bought this beautiful hat from the old town of Prague! So, that's how much I love books and posters and hats — I arrived home with the most inconvenient souvenirs to travel with... including this huge — but lovely, mind you! — hatbox. :-D

Calathea | 6034 comments Hi-de-ho!

Are you guys reading Murder Between the Pages already or still trying on hats? (I'm still all for the Fedora, btw, but I like the felt too...)

And where are the martinis, anyway?

If you've got a minute to spare, here's a task for you that could win you the killer-diller (I've been told it means "good stuff", but really? O.O)

See the picture? This little 1940s china figurine was found in a locker box. Where did it come from? Is it valueable? Who is missing it? Who or what was it intended for? Was it a big art theft? Or merely a bank deposit for safety reasons?

Tell us the story!

Every participants has a chance to win one of the nine audiocodes. Winners will be drawn randomly Saturday evening (24 hours from now). Winners have another day to check back here and contact me afterwards, otherwise the prize will go back in the vault.

Have fun and tell us everything about it! :-D

Calathea | 6034 comments Johanna wrote: "That is such a charming figurine! Can't wait to hear what you guys come up with!

That's probably the china that makes you think of him? It could have gone down like this: the figurine was an ornamental part of Kit's grandma's china that he lost and had to buy back when moving. I guess the woman who helt the service ransom kept the figurine to herself and put it in the locker box so noone would stumble upon it.
What nobody knew is that it had been part of a theft before. Actually, Kit's granddad stole it from a shop when he was wooing the later gradma and gave it to her as a gift because she had been admiring it so. They got the rest of the china as a present for the wedding.

Does that sound true to you? If not, write your own story. A few words to show us the idea will be enough. :-)

Alison | 4756 comments Did someone say "where are the martinis?" Here they are! Breakfast of champions, you know. Cheers. And Josh does an excellent Carmen Miranda impression with that salad bowl hat. :)

I'll try and pop back in later because I have to go to work now. Have fun you all. :)

Perfect timing. My new 4 disc cd collection of 40's big band/swing music arrived two days ago. I will make sure to listen to it while reading the new book!

message 39: by Haldis (last edited Oct 28, 2016 12:15PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Haldis | 1288 comments This figurine has been in the Vanderheusen family (the Boston Vanderheusens) for years. It came over from Austria as part of Anne Maria Heffler's dowry when she married Willem Hans Vanderheusen in 1843.
Recently the Vanderheusen family has fallen on hard times and was forced to pawn many of its heirlooms.
When Esther Vanderheusen, the present matriarch of the family, returned to reclaim her precious figurine, it was gone with no trace of a sale.
The family will pay handsomely for its return. No questions asked.

I love this! Is Esther one of these older, though as nails matriarch or more of a new, youngish, inexperienced one? Is she hiring a P.I.? Tell me she is hiring a P.I.!

Ester is tough as nails, and of course she is hiring a P.I.
Hopefully he can find a lead.
It appears the pawn shop has been ransacked and robbed, and the owner found dead.....the P.I. found mob connections.

Sabine | 3041 comments This little china figurine is an unique piece created by the famous artist Maximilian Schaller, who worked his whole adult life for the Meissen porcelain manufactory.
Prince Olav, heir of the island monarchy Gyilth, bought the figurine for his very good friend Pierre Mantonine. He send this lovely figurine with his trustworthy courier Nils Haggar towards France.
By a muggin only twenty kilometres away from his destination lost Nils the china figurine and his life.

Ha! These are absolutely wonderful, Haldis, Sabine and Calathea!! I love these all!

Antonella | 11563 comments Lovely stories, thank you so much!

I wont contribute because I'm knackered (and I definitely decided that I'm not interested in audiobooks, we can talk again after I found the time to listen to the ones I've got - by Josh and by Jordan Castillo Price).

I'm going to bed very early (for my standards) and starting to read a bit of the book.

Lisa ~ Books Are My Drugs ~ (lisa44870) | 14 comments This lovely little figurine was carefully brought by a young solider returning home from the war for his sweetheart. When he arrived home, he found his family along with his sweetheart's had all died from a flu epidemic. His sweetheart, all alone in the work and not knowing when the soldier when return home was forced to marry another and move far away. Broken hearted, the soldier carefully & lovingly packed up the statue & placed it in storage until he could face looking at it again. Alas, he never recovered from losing his love; thus never returned to recover the lovely piece of art from where he had stored it. Upon his death, it was discovered by the company that owned the storage lockers.

Yes, Olav changed his life after this tragedy. He decided to give love a chance and bought the famous hotel Krasnapolsky in Amsterdam. Pierre rented a suite there with a connecting door to Olav's suite.

Lord Peter Wimsey had needed nearly a year to find the murderer of Nils.
