One Second After discussion

I DEVOURED this book. :-) Except for a couple of things involving dogs, which I LOVE, I'd have given it 5 stars. An online friend recommended it to me.

She didn't like it, finding it depressing. But like 1984 by George Orwell, I found this to be a wake up call. And I think it should be, like 1984, required reading in schools!

I never thought I'd say this, esp. when in school, but eveyone needs to realize how fragile our system is with everything digital or computerized.

Kids today do everything on their devices, along with many adults. (I am not one of them) An EMP would FRY everything, even smart self-driving cars would be useless.

Anyone else read and enjoy this also?

I just wanted to say how much this book resonated with me. I am now reading the sequel, loving it just as much.

I very much enjoyed this book and sequel.

I enjoyed the whole trilogy. I don't agree with his assessment on how things would shake out but it's fiction.

Made me crazy ...... knowing that there's possibility of an EMP. It was a good read, but very uncomfortable.

Agree that it should be required reading in high school. Young people have little concept of how quickly Society can devolve into anarchy. And an EMP - whether from a North Korean missile, or a wayward asteroid - is all too possible. Yikes!

Yep, this book really made me think...esp these days when news reports N Korea "possibly" having an EMP.

Kids these days don't have any idea of what's really going on in the world. Sometimes I wish I didn't....

How true! Was on vacation for a week recently and "off the grid" - i.e. no news. It was very calming. Only took one day back "on the grid" for the angst over world events to return. :-)

That had to be really nice! I don't know where you live, but I'm in Fort Worth, and this past week in addition to the usual shootings, we've had a couple of thousand people in Dallas area whose lives are disrupted because of a gas leak, flooding.......the older I get, the less I want to be in large crowds. Ugh!

Live in Wisconsin, but life is crazy everywhere. That's why we read, right? Momentary escape from reality.

Ok! Hey, just read "The Store"......could not put it down. We're enjoying sunshine right now, in the 60's. Have a great weekend.

Loved One Second After. We tend to think of smart phones when we think of high tech but the basics like refrigeration become life and death. A good read.

Yeah, kinda wish I'd not read it. But man was it good.

I used to think that the word scary applied only to horror books, but ONE SECOND AFTER made me realize there are more scary things out there than just monsters under the bed.

I visit Black Mountain every year on vacation for the last 15 years and knowing the location made the novel even more scary! I wish this was required reading for junior high, high school and all of Congress!

If you liked this trilogy, check out the 10 book Survivalist Series by A. American. I thought Forstchen did a great job detailing what an EMP attack here in the states but he really only scratched the surface. If the John Matherson series is a wake up call, the survivalist series is a 3, 4 combo for the knockout. Very profound and very humbling.

I don’t know if “enjoy” is the right word but this is a very important book for everyone to read.
