All right, sounds like a plan!

All righty, then...I'm between books at the moment, but I've got to take my son to speech therapy today, so I'll likely be starting something then.
How are you and your kids? I went on a retreat this weekend because I was so stressed tired and needed to get away from the kids and the man, LOL.
I binge watched tv, went for hikes, learned about scrap booking though I didn't actually do one. But I only had to worry about myself.
Now I'm back...to washing dishes, clothes etc LOL

Okey dokie then, I'll plan on starting it during my 2 hour reading block later tonight, round 5pm your time.

Not too bad...have been worried and stressed ever since the election. "How do I teach my son to respect others and be kind, when our President-elect is neither of those things?" is a question that has been plaguing me lately.
I've been crocheting a lot more too, working on a bed sized afghan for my daughter. School is consuming a lot of my time with my son, but it is so worth it! He's really learning a lot!
The election was very sobering me. My 5-yr old asked me if me have to move back to Nigeria.
I said listen, you and your siblings were born in Dallas. Mommy was born in Chicago and Daddy was born in New York City. We are HOME.
It saddens me that my kids hear that stuff in school.
It's happened. I said Never again will I shield my kids from politics. I will be very careful about what I say but I will explain to them because I don't want them to be ignorant of what's going on.
Right now, my daughter is learning about "African immigrant workers". That's 4th grade social studies. Upon checking her homework, I realized it was slavery.
I had to discuss the truth with her. That's ridiculous. The teacher said it was decided not to fan the racial hate and divide we are experiencing
I Fite that but slavery was not Immigration workers. That's a complete rewrite of history. You can explain it happened long ago and was terrible but to call it migrant workers takes away from the civil rights movements that came out from those things.
But this election has opened up wounds in the country that I Hope heal

Wow! Thankfully, with homeschooling, my son missed much of that kind of thing, but I don't think it was a completely good idea to have him miss it. I just teach him that he may hear some kids getting made fun of or picked on, and he needs to help stand up to the people that are doing that kind of thing.
I agree with you, the "rewriting" of history is not something that should be taught! Yes, slavery happened, yes, slavery is bad. Do some in this country regret that our beginnings stem from that? Yes! But there are so many teachable opportunities that can come from discussing it! The Underground Railroad, the advances of Frederick Douglas, The Tuskegee Airmen, all of it stemming from slavery and racial divides! Re-naming it almost feels like a slap in the face to the struggles that those people faced, and I'm a white chick! It's part of my history too, and I'm offended by that kind of "whitewashing"! (Sorry, history buff...those struggles make me think about the kind of person I want to be, and not to repeat those mistakes of the past.)
Like you, I'm hoping things will eventually heal in our country.

LOL!
I wound up with a migraine last night, so didn't get a chance to start, I was staring at the backs of my eyelids. I'll start in a few minutes...

Take your time.
I guess I expected tattoo artists (rebels) and contractors would be more out spoken. Stereotype huh?
I don't see why Dec and Miranda are suffering in silence
Sierra,
I'm sure her fiancée Austin would be okay if she doesn't have a child since he has one already

There is something incredibly surface about these books. I like reading the books especially after a heavy read. But I can't read this back to back.
I can't believe Grif and Dec fist fought. They are the best of friends. It's ridiculous really.
Do you think the dad will beat the cancer?

I think they will eventually get fed up and do something about the situation...I hope!

I think she'll always feel inadequate to Austin if she can't, even though he won't see her that way.

I totally agree! Sounds like the cops aren't going to do anything about the assault, and that will be trouble later on.

The fist fight was pretty stupid, as if they didn't have a right to some privacy as a new couple!
I hope he does, but it would be a wrenching twist if he didn't!
I think Megan should me happy he left her so she can be with Luke. It's clear there was some history there.
I want to know why she put up with that treatment when it's clear her dad didn't treat her mom like that. Why?

Decker left Miranda in the hospital. I'm not sure I'll be okay with that for a while. I don't love him enough but obviously her mom and her do!
BTW, how did Deckers alcoholic dad know about Miranda? It's not like they talk and have heart to hearts. The nerve of his mom asking for bail money to get the man who abused both of them with no remorse
Lots of abuse going on in his book:
Emotional abuse: Meg
Physical and Emotional abuse: Dec's mom
Physical abuse: Miranda
Only one man in jail though and that's the crazy ass stalker Jack. I think this author should address the women's effort to heal. You can just drop heavy topics and let it float away like we didn't see that.

I agree, but I think it was Decker who gave us a very telling statement early on: Meghan was staying in her marriage for her kids. I think the jerk husband was going to try to take them from Meghan if she left him. That being said, his statement as he was leaving makes me think she's in for a fight there. It will be interesting to see this play out over the next books
I was glad Luc showed back up when he did! The whole situation made me feel for Meghan, and him showing back up made me think that there was hope for that situation after all the abuse.

I thought it was a jerk move, really. I hated his constant "I'm not really a Montgomery" "I'm not good enough for her" "I'm trash/scum" mantra, so I figured he'd pull a douche move like this one. Miranda forgave him too easily, though.

No clue, and I remember it not making much sense to me at the time, though I think the author would explain it away that because Maya was such a gossip and let it out to family and hadn't been careful who was in the room when she told them, one of the girlfriends told a personal friend and it spread from there. Wasn't Sierra in the room when Maya told her mom about it? Sierra probably told Hailey in Taboo, and it got overheard and spread around from there, and thus got back to Decker's father. I just wish the author had shown us some of this!
Hopefully, she'll address the healing in later books. These seem to be very interconnected, and not stand-alones like I had originally assumed. I'm not surprised, though, she kinda did the same thing with the Holiday, Montana series she wrote.
I do like the fact that these are quick reads, though, even if they aren't short ones!
