Buck (spectru) I started the Tantor audio version of Twelve Years a Slave yesterday morning and finished it this morning. I expect it was the recent movie, which I have not seen, that brought this book to the fore.

The formal nineteenth century prose is usually not my favorite, but I found that I quickly grew accustomed to it. This is a compelling memoir.

I wonder if anyone else in our group is reading or has read this.

Kayleigh | 97 comments I too will be listening to an audio version of this, but someone else has it out at the library until the 23rd, so I'm going to have to wait, fingers crossed they'll send it back early.

I haven't seen the film either, I really wanted to wait and read the book first, this is one that has been on my to-read list for a while

Wend (wends) | 7 comments I have seen the film and am in the minority as I wasn't impressed. The BOTM is available to download free, I am hoping to read before Christmas if I can fit it in. I nearly always prefer the book to a film. I normally don't read a book once I've seen it on screen, so am intrigued if I like it.

Free on Kindle UK. having read the book it is much better than the film, for me a 3.5*
