Did you all know there's a website called "List Challenges" where you can "check off" awesome lists in entertainment?! It's pretty neat but time-consuming...check it out when you have 6 hours to kill! ;-) It gave me the idea to start a new thread for Book List Challenges.

http://www.listchallenges.com/

How about we start with the BBC's The Big Read Challenge!
http://www.listchallenges.com/bbc-the...

Check off your "READ" books and share your score with the group! If you have time, make a note of the books you've read, want to read, and those you just CAN'T make it through. (We're here to comfort you when EVERYONE out there says you "must" read this "classic" book and you just can't do it! We've all been there!)

This looks like a lot of fun so I'm going to bookmark the site for later. Don't lose too much time on the site, guys! Seriously, it looks addicting to me...

Though there are a number on there I intend to read someday, I have only read 25 of them. Kinda disappointed in myself...

Oh no, don't be!

Just Elise (justelise) | 176 comments These are cool - thanks, Allison. :) And yes, it could be time-consuming.

I've read 25 of those. 26 from "BBC believes you've only read 6 of these books," and 16 of the "50 books to read in a lifetime." Some I read in school and don't remember very well. A lot are on my tbr. Some I just don't have much interest in, so even if they're on my "someday" list, I won't be broken-hearted if I never get to them.

I also read several of them back in high school and don't remember them well. I should probably read them again if I really want them to count :-P

I've only read 2 ofthe 10 most read books of all time. I tried to read the Twilight series when I was teaching 7th grade but eventually gave up because it was torture. HATE those books!
And I can't get through The Hobbit so I'll never read that whole series.

And I've read 14 of the 50 books to read before you die. Books I started but didn't finish: Catch 22, The Picture of Dorian Gray, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, The War of the Worlds.

These listmakers don't have much faith in us. I read 25 of that list as well, and 30 of the BBC list. Goodness, BBC.

Just Elise (justelise) | 176 comments I've only read two of the10 most read books. Twilight really doesn't appeal to me. I've read 37 of the books wirh unforgettable characters. One I started but dnf'd was Don Quixote. I loved Dorian Gray and War of the Worlds. :)

Just Elise (justelise) | 176 comments Elizabeth, LOL that's what I thought when I was going through the list - a lot of very well-known books on there.

message 11: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey I've only read 23 that's on the list, but another 11 of them are on my TBR!

StarMan (thestarman) | 1942 comments BBC's Top 100 Books to Read Before You Die:

https://www.listchallenges.com/bbcs-t...

How many of these have you read?
What's the best book on this list?
Do you see any titles that don't belong?

Note: this list is slightly different from the BBC's 100 'Best Loved Novels' list at https://www.listchallenges.com/bbc-th...

StarMan (thestarman) | 1942 comments 100 Top Thrillers: https://www.listchallenges.com/stacke...

If you had to pick just one to recommend, which one would it be?

Bird Box by Josh Malerman. Also, Silence of the Lambs by Thomas Harris, but I would definitely recommend reading the first one - Red Dragon. That one was so good!

Pien | 601 comments I really enjoyed The Dinner by Koch, and Ruiz Safon’s book. (The library if forgotten books? Not shure about the English title)

I've read 52. Best: The Count of Monte Cristo

message 17: by Candace (new)

Candace (candywilliams) | 491 comments Thrillers, read 24. Saw the movies of several others. These lists bring back good memories, Star Man. Thanks!

message 18: by Jane (new)

Jane Dalton (journojane) | 68 comments The BBC list makes me so grateful for being made to read some of the classics when I was at school or uni. Plenty of books I've read since have failed to live up to that standard. And there are lots on there I'd still like to read. Thanks for posting it, StarMan.

message 19: by Fred (new)

Fred Alexander (tumbleweed984gmailcom) | 134 comments Thank you StarMan for posting the BBC's list of Books to Read Before You Die.
I've only read 18 of those books, I've watched the movies of probably 10 others.
I would add Don Quixote by Cervantes to the list.

I've read 37 on the BBC list, but 10 of them I read at a young age and didn't really appreciate. Guess I'll need to read them again.

StarMan (thestarman) | 1942 comments Not a challenge (unless you make it one!), but here are some suggested books set in boarding schools (yes, Harry Potter books count):

50 Must-Read Books Set in Boarding Schools:
https://bookriot.com/books-set-in-boa...

Fiction Set in a Boarding School:
https://www.goodreads.com/list/show/3...

5 that come to mind for me are:

The Magicians by Lev Grossman
Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro
Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
Marked by P.C. Cast & Kristin Cast
The Broken Girls by Simone St. James (because I recently read it!)
