Near the end of each month, I think we should stand up and proudly announce how many books we did buy that month and tell where we got them. Nothing to be ashamed of, right? :-)

I'll start. My name is Joseph and as of July 28th, I bought 53 books this month. 51 of them at used book sales at the library and the other 2 from Amazon. How about you?

message 2: by Susan (Suz) (new)

Susan (Suz) (sharney) Holy Cow Joseph, that is a lot of books :) You go!!! ;) I only bought a mere 9 books this month, 5 from a local bookstore called Powell's, the other 4 from Costco. Alto 3 of the books I bought are Omnibus books, so each Volume has 3 full books, so can I count that as 9? Which means I bought 15 books this month :)

message 3: by LooLoo (new)

LooLoo I've lost track of how many books I've bought this month but it would have to be in the 40-50 range because I took advantage of the B&N.com sale someone talked about here plus Susan told me about wonderful McKenziebooks.com. I've also picked up numerous books at my local used bookstore and off eBay.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one. Good to have company!

message 4: by Susan (Suz) (new)

Susan (Suz) (sharney) I'm here for ya Loo! LOL, LOL

message 5: by Kaz. (new)

Kaz. I'm like you Looloo I've lost count but I will jot them down from now on so I can post them on this thread, I bought the first five books in the Sisters of the Moons series last weekend from QBD book store and I also received One Silent Night by Sherrilyn Kenyon this week in the mail from Fishpond.com, I've been collecting the whole series to read, I have a thing with collecting series at the moment.

message 6: by Kelley Anne (new)

Kelley Anne I haven't paid attention, but I will for this next month!

message 7: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 106 comments I did pretty good this month cause i have been preoccupied with Anita Blake series that im borrowing so i have bought...
at least 5 this month that i can think off the top of my head
2 from borders
2 from barnes and nobles
1 from bn.com

Karen I am right there with you on collecting series. i have all the SK dark-hunters except bad moon rising that i will buy on tues ( already got one bought book for Aug) and the 3 of the anthologies.

message 8: by Kaz. (new)

Kaz. Yes it's a real addiction collecting series books for me Lauren, I have the Anita Blake one here to read also, I've heard great things about it.
I forgot to mention that I also bought the 4 books in the Sign of the Zodiac series by Vicki Pettersson, I picked the first 3 up for half price, couldn't pass that by, lol.

message 9: by LooLoo (new)

LooLoo Karen - I have the first three Pettersson books to read. I just haven't gotten to them yet. I didn't realize book 4 was out now. I'm like you, I like to collect the whole series. Right now I'm reading Kelly Arthur's Riley Jensen series, I'm starting book 4 and have the last four books waiting.

Back this winter I bought all the Anita Blake books before I started reading. Thankfully I really love that series. I did that with Kenyon's Dark Hunter/Dream Hunter series too.

message 10: by Kaz. (new)

Kaz. Book 4 has only just came out Looloo, I have the Riley Jensen series too, are you enjoying it?

message 11: by Joseph (new)

Joseph (bluemanticore) | 1866 comments Mod
Karen, where'd you get that great deal? I've read the first three in the Sign of the Zodiac series so far series and was able to get #1 used, but I'd like to get the others as well.

message 12: by LooLoo (new)

LooLoo Karen wrote: "Book 4 has only just came out Looloo, I have the Riley Jensen series too, are you enjoying it?

Yes, so far I like the series. It hasn't pulled me in as much as some series but it's still enjoyable.

message 13: by Kaz. (new)

Kaz. I'm from Australia Joseph so I don't think my answer will help you much, lol, a bit to far to come.
I picked them up on sale tables outside of a local newsagents.

Karen, oh, I don't know, some of us book buying addicts will go long distances for a good book buying deal. lol.

message 15: by Kelley Anne (last edited Aug 05, 2009 11:30AM) (new)

Kelley Anne I've never kept track of how many books I buy. I think I've been a bit worried about what the number will come up to! But, for August I'll keep track. I'm just going to keep editing this post throughout the month and see how many I end up with! I've already got a few to mark down.

Audible.com
My Soul to Take by Rachel Vincent
Fool Moon by Jim Butcher

Borders
Feast of Fools by Rachel Caine
Carpe Corpus by Rachel Caine

OK, I'm going to move this list to the new discussion for august purchases.

message 16: by Anne (new)

Anne (booklover6) I try not to keep track, if my DH found a list he would not be happy! But yesterday I couldn't resist and bought three books from www.bookdepository.com. They have free shipping no matter how little you buy. I bought
Sweet Persuasion
Dominic
Leave Me Breathless
Those books were really good prices.

message 17: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 106 comments ok so Aug 1

1.Fae Fever
2.Cerulean Sins

message 18: by LooLoo (new)

LooLoo Kelley Anne, Anne and Lauren - you guys are off to a running start for this month, LOL! I'm proud to say I've made it this far into the month without buying anything, of course Aug. 2nd isn't over yet, lol.

message 19: by Kaz. (new)

Kaz. Wow Shazzy, well done.

message 20: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 106 comments i hoping that if i see my self keep track on here that i will not buy so much.......... heres to hoping

Unapologetic_Bookaholic It will be good to start a bought 8/2009 shelf for this group. It's great the shelves you come up with when browsing through different threads.

I just joined August, so no books yet!

Not a bad idea, Kenjii. I've now done just that.

message 23: by Ilean (new)

Ilean (ileanfulton) | 242 comments So far this month of August I have only bought 1 book but have borrowed two from a friend. I finished 3 books returning 1 to it's owner and passing on two to my mother in law. I am almost finished with the Constant Princess. But I have a stack of at least 30 or more to read yet. And my husband wonders why I have not used the Kindle yet that he bought for my birthday. (Because most of the books I want to read I can get cheaper by getting at Sam's club or with Border discounts than the price Kindle wants) I have a go round group that passes books around.
My friend, her 3 friends, my mother in law ( she seldom buys because I share) and my 16 year old daughter. Sometimes it get hard to remember what is your own unless you make sure to put your name in it. My friend has been know to buy 2-3 copies of the same book. (Yes, I have don it a few times. But I keep a list now.)

message 24: by LooLoo (new)

LooLoo Well I made it till today before buying any books in Aug. Hubby was looking for some used CDs so we went to the local used book and cd store. I bought 5 books. I could have bought so many more but I refused to pay the prices they were asking for some really worn books. I was looking for Jim Butcher books and they were asking $6.50 for some. I think half price is much more reasonable for used books, especially ones that aren't new releases.

message 25: by Ilean (new)

Ilean (ileanfulton) | 242 comments I seldom get to go to a book fare but did get to one back in april --got a big bag full for $15.00 including a couple of hardback books. What a bargain.

Unapologetic_Bookaholic I have been having fun helping to add books yall list as having bought in August [to the group bookshelf:].

The books yall are buying are good ones =D. I have gotten 1 book bought for me from a friend and 2 sent to me in a swap. So I really am getting my book buying fix w/o having to buy! LOL!

I'm really anxious to know what you think. I've wanted to discuss this book with someone for ages.

message 28: by Kaz. (new)

Kaz. It will be a little while before I get to read them sorry Schnaucl, I'm reading a couple of other series at the moment that I want to finish off first, but
I'll let you know when I start the first one.

message 29: by Linda (new)

Linda Most of the books I've bought over the summer have been at the little used book store in my library - typically .50-$1.00 a piece.

I'm looking on my shelves to figure out how many/which books I bought since the beginning of July. I actually have my library catalogued on my computer (thanks to my hubby), but I can only list/search books by title or author. I asked him if there was a way I could search by the date that they were added into the database, so if he can do it, I will be able to refer to that in the future!

Linda, there should be a way you can start keeping track of when a book was entered. Being a librarian, I've written my own catalog database for my personal library and entering the date of the book being entered is one of the fields I have.

message 31: by Anne (new)

Anne (booklover6) Borders sent me another coupon so I had to go and get some new releases. I got Saving Midnight and Skykeepers. Waiting on some books from the mail, too. I should not buy any more books this month!

message 32: by Linda (new)

Linda Joseph, the problem is that the program wasn't originally created with a field for the date an item was entered, but I imagine such a field could be added. I just have to bug my husband about doing it!

message 33: by Ilean (new)

Ilean (ileanfulton) | 242 comments Well, I just came back from a library book sale. I spent $4.00 - 8 books!
This is what I bought " Little Bitty Lies" @ "Hissy Fit" Mary Kay Andrews, "Standing in the Rainbow" @ "Daisy Fay and the Miracle Man" by Fannie Flag, "Commitments" @" Woman Next Door" by Barbara Delinsky, "Abindance of Katherines" by John Green, "Glass Books of the Dream Eaters" by Gordon Dahlquist

message 34: by Schnaucl (new)

Schnaucl | 43 comments Linda,

Have you thought about using Librarything for the books you own. You might even be able to import all of that into LT. I use LT for books I own and goodreads for books I've read. You can organize books all kinds of ways on LT (and get random statistics about your library, which I've always found interesting)

Now this isn't a competition guys, we aren't supposed to be bragging, but in any case, so far this month I've bought 16 books, 14 bought used from the library and 2 new from Borders. :-)

message 36: by Kyle (new)

Kyle Borland (kgborland) I bought Don't Know Much About History today...ugh..that puts me at 20.

please tell me someone is has bought more than me by now :D

message 37: by LooLoo (new)

LooLoo Yes Kyle, I've left you in the dust. With the purchase of Mona Lisa Darkening last night with the Borders coupon I've bought 55 books this month alone. Many of them are still being shipped to me. I can't believe I've bought that many in a two week period! Most of them are used books and some that I bought from eBay ended up costing less than $2 each so at least I bargain shop!

I'm only going to allow myself to purchase one or two more books for the rest of the month and that is only because I have a 20% off coupon to the used bookstore that expires then. Wish me luck that I can stick to my resolution.

good luck looloo! Hopefully don't catch up but I probably will with all the new books coming out :(

message 39: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (rainbowbrite98) I acquired 72 books this month. I would say 15 were from Borders and Barnes and Noble, 10 were from Amazon and the rest were from paperbackswap. PBS has saved me a lot of book buying money. I love PBS!

message 40: by Priscilla (new)

Priscilla | 2 comments I just got 3 new books of Patricia Briggs' Mercy Thompson series, but someone donated them to the library so I got them for free. I love working in the library, all the books that get thrown out or ones people give us, I get to pick and keep the ones I like.

message 41: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 106 comments I bought ONE book over the weekend. The Chosen Sin. I am proud of myself cause there was so many that I wanted to get.

message 42: by Kyle (last edited Aug 17, 2009 03:04PM) (new)

Kyle Borland (kgborland) I am about to buy a MASSIVE amount of books :D

online and in the store :D I've been holding off because of all the new books coming out :D

message 43: by Michelle (last edited Aug 18, 2009 05:42AM) (new)

Michelle Gilmore | 510 comments I think I've purchased about 20 (just recounted) books so far for August, and I'm not done yet. Dreamfever by Karen M. Moning comes out today, so I know I'll be getting that, and I can't imaging leaving the store with just that one book. Then, Blood Promise by Richelle Mead will be out next week, and I just have to have that one. I do buy a lot of used books on Amazon for a $.01+ shipping, unless its something that I just can't wait to get my hands on, then I go straight to Borders. I've also just discovered a huge used bookstore called McKay's here in Nashville which I'll be checking out soon.

message 44: by Anne (new)

Anne (booklover6) I have bought way more than I should have. I will buy no more this month! (PBS doesn't count!) I'm waiting on 2 books from Borders and 6 books from The Book Depository. (and 7 from PBS) Shameful!

message 45: by Ilean (new)

Ilean (ileanfulton) | 242 comments I am going to make a better effort not to buy anything else. I need to read what I have borrowed and what is on my shelf. A book that I purchased for 50 cents last week by John Green I gave to my 16 yr old daughter to read. She has laughed so hard, enjoying it so much.

Unapologetic_Bookaholic I have been very lax on buying since a lot of Wishlisted items came thru swap sites. About 6 books I think.

message 47: by Ilean (new)

Ilean (ileanfulton) | 242 comments Tell how to find these swap sites. There are some books in several series that I am lloking for that my friend does not read.

message 48: by Gabrielle (new)

Gabrielle (GSKoret) | 5 comments Amazon mostly. We have a WONDERFUL local bookshop - 192 Books. Walked past one day and realized HALF of my wishlist was in their window. Mostly tough, I have to pretend it doesn't exist or I'd be in there everyday.

message 49: by Kyle (new)

Kyle Borland (kgborland) I bought: The hunger games, Catching fire, Blood Promise, graceling, cry wolf, and hunting ground yesterday. (online)
