Here is some information that I didn't know previously:
1. China being a relatively-close ally of North Korea
2. If the defectors are caught in China, they are repatriated back to North Korea to face harsh interrogations and years of punishment, or even death in political prison camps such as Yodok camp or reeducation camps such as Chungsan camp or Chongori camp.

There is a new movie out on Netflix called Under the Sun about North Korea.
Under the Sun is a 2015 Russian documentary film directed by Vitaly Mansky. The film follows a year in the life of a family in Pyongyang, North Korea as their daughter Zin-mi prepares to join the Korean Children's Union on the Day of the Shining Star (Kim Jong-il's birthday).

I am reading this book right now and I just got to Part II, where they are in China. I can only imagine China is just as heart breaking to read at North Korea is. This poor girl and her family! I feel so bad for what poor people in Korea go through.
