Werner I thought it might be interesting, and fun, to have a thread in this group where we can recommend New Pulp books and stories (by writers OTHER than ourselves!) that we've read and enjoyed. (We don't seem to have a lot of discussion here, so perhaps this will spark some!)

Most of the rest of you have probably read more New Pulp than I have. But there have been a few New Pulp novels I've read since joining Goodreads that have gotten four or even five stars from me. One is Doc Wilde and the Frogs of Doom by Tim Byrd , by Tim Byrd. This is a projected series opener inspired by the Doc Savage stories of the classic pulp era. It's written for kids, but can be enjoyed by adults too. My review is here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... .

Another is Seeley James' series opener The Geneva Decision (Pia Sabel #1; Sabel Security Thriller #1) by Seeley James , an action-adventure thriller featuring kick-butt heroine Pia Sabel. This one isn't advertised as New Pulp, but I think it fits the action-and-danger-packed pulp tradition, with a heroine that Modesty Blaise and the Domino Lady would probably have liked and respected; and Seeley doesn't object to the term. Werner I'm quite a fan of strong, brave action heroine types in fiction --I'm the founding moderator of the Action Heroine Fans group here on Goodreads, and became the current moderator of the Girls and Guns group (long story!), so that probably tells you something. :-) So a lot of my reading in what I think of as New Pulp features protagonists of this type. (Not that there aren't some New pulp heroes out there whose exploits would be just as worthy!)

Two series of this type that have gotten five stars from me so far are K. W. Jeter's Kim Oh series and the Brianna series by my Goodreads friend David Wittlinger. (Full disclosure: I beta read both books that have been published so far in the latter series, The Strong One (Brianna #1) by David Wittlinger and Brianna's Reprisal (Brianna #2) by David Wittlinger .) Readers should be cautioned that the Brianna series has some very explicit sexual content and bad language, but those elements are necessary to the story the author is telling; they aren't gratuitous or glorified. I've only read the first two Kim Oh novels, Real Dangerous Girl (Kim Oh, #1) by K.W. Jeter and Real Dangerous Job (Kim Oh, #2) by K.W. Jeter , but so far there are seven books in the series. Regrettably, though, none of them are offered any longer as paper books, only as e-books. :-(

My reviews of these four books are here::
