Which biography would you recommend for readers interested in Joyce's life? Richard Ellmann's James Joyce seems to be the gold standard.

I was just wondering how much is 'true' from 'Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man'? How truthful is it? Interesting. I need to find out!!

I think many of the biographies "rip" numerous sections from his books to "paint" his life....

Wonderful question! It may be, unfortunately, unanswerable.
Parallels are certainly discernible, but the truth may be elusive.
