Samina Aziz | 43 comments I read this aged 12-13. so we're looking at book that's over 15 years old and is aimed at teens or pre-teens

a girl moves into a cottage and falls for the guy who lives in the manor. when she is in the cottage she always feels this warm enveloping feeling and when she has gone to the manor she feels cold and icy.

turns out centuries ago (tudor England) the Lord of the manor (who is the current hero reincarnated) had fallen in love with the tenant in his cottage and had wanted to marry her. (who is the female lead reincarnated)
he was either married or betrothed to another woman (cold feelings) who either had the tenant girl murdered or something which led to her death. I remember that the girls body was hidden in a chest

the modern day couple are drawn to one another and the guy is being pulled in both directions.

it's a bit confusing because I can't remember much about it at all only that I reread it a fair few times from the library which is why I remember even this much

hope someone can help

Can we eliminate this long shot - Never Let Me Go by Joan Smith?

One Amazon reviewer says, "Belle has come to England to finish writing her book, but soon finds herself engrossed in an unsolved 19th century mystery involving a young girl and her lover. Following the young girl's disappearance, it was presumed that she had been murdered by the lover she spurned, the Earl of Raventhorpe, who immediately thereafter fled the country. When the ghost of Raventhorpe makes himself known to her, Belle finds herself drawn to him..."

Samina Aziz | 43 comments It isn't the book but it looks so good I am downloading it now! mine is about a teenage girl/young adult who moves to a cottage where she experiences a warm feeling. there are three ghosts, the ghost of the lady who lived in the cottage, the lord of the mansion whose grounds the cottage was on, and his wife (he was forcibly married to her and I think she had the girl in the cottage murdered and she now is after the modern day girl)

``Laurie (laurielynette) Norah Lofts has written many books of this type that you might enjoy reading.

Samina Aziz | 43 comments her books seem to be historical in setting but the book I'm after is a young adult book with a modern setting and a secondary storyline of the characterd previois incarnations

She's a teenager and moves into a cottage...with her family or distant relatives?

A few long shots:

- Something from the Enchanted Hearts series?
https://www.goodreads.com/series/6714...

- Love Him Forever by Cherie Bennett?

Samina Aziz | 43 comments hi Kris this series you linked sounds amazing. it's not it though. the first in this series sounds so like the book I'm looking for. they move into a cottage the girl feels drawn to the guy who has inherited the manor and there is a ghost from the past (the wife of the man who the current day teenaged son of the owner is supposed to be the reincarnate of) and this ghost is malevolent. she wants the girl dead because she is the reincarnate of the woman her husband had an affair with (they truly loved each other). in one part of the book they find bones in a chest and realise how the mistress, Alice had met her end. towards the end, the modern day couple split up but then in the end reunite.

the book I read may be of a similar age to the books you linked and is set in England.

Samina Aziz | 43 comments set in the 90s maybe a teenaged girl - possibly a young woman who is an artist moves into a cottage in the grounds of a big house. when she is in the cottage she is enveloped in this warm feeling. turns out a few hundred years ago the house was inhabited by a maid who worked in the big house who was in love with the son of the big house. he was forced to marry a woman of his own status and i think she found out about the mistress and had her murdered and stuffed into a box - in the modern day the big house is occupied by one of the descendants of the unhappily married couple from the older time. he seems to have a warm feeling in the big house which is haunted by the wife of the man, who is still angry and this ghost may attempt to murder the modern day girl. long shot but i will keep searching for this book

Heather | 183 comments I read something similar years ago, and would like to find it. A woman with short blond hair and winged eyebrows (not random in the book to mention this), and a man meet in an old monastery's ruins in England. Turns out he was a monk, and she was a nun (I think) who fell in forbidden love. There is an evil spirit of some sort that they have to overcome, because it's trying to kill them in the modern day. they eventually overcome it, and get together. I read it back in the '80s, I think, and it was considered a Gothic romance.

Samina Aziz | 43 comments hey Heather that sounds great but isnt my book

``Laurie (laurielynette) Great news Heather! The Nonsuch Lure was such a great book I still remember it all these years since I first read it in the 70's.

Let us know when you know for sure if this is the correct book please.

Heather | 183 comments I've ordered it from half.ebay.com, so we'll see.

Mary (marissa_214) | 131 comments I've not read this, but came across it in the "Readers also enjoyed" selection from the Nonsuch Lure mentioned above and it sounds like it has some similar elements to what the OP is looking for.

Green Darkness by Anya Seton?

message 21: by Tab (new)

Tab (tabbrown) | 5084 comments Probably not the book since this one features a woman instead of a teen, but Midnight is a Lonely Place Midnight is a Lonely Place by Barbara Erskine

I got my copy today, and scanning the blurb on the dust jacket, one of the first things to jump out was the heroine's name. Jackpot! It is the book. I read it in paperback, and the cover was quite a bit different from the hard cover I got.

Samina Aziz | 43 comments bump

Samina Aziz | 43 comments ps The nonsuch lure sounds so similar to the book I am searching for. Mine is definitely more modern as it was published about 15-20 years ago

Steph | 27 comments I'm pretty sure this isn't the book you're looking for, but it sounds a bit like the premise for Legacy of Lies by Elizabeth Chandler. Maybe give it a look and see if anything comes up in the recommended list that might be your book? Oh, and do let us know if you find it...your book sounds interesting and I would love to read it myself! Best of luck ;)

Legacy of Lies by Elizabeth Chandler - mentioned by Steph

Samina Aziz | 43 comments Hiya - I downloaded and read Legacy of Lies - it was good, but not my book at all. The book I am looking for is set in England and is about an angry ghost who wants revenge for her husband (reincarnated) and his mistress (also reincarnated) - whom she had murdered in the past - tudor times I believe.

message 29: by Regan (new)

Regan (livingscenery) | 49 comments Sounds a bit like Mariana by Susanna Kearsley

Samina Aziz | 43 comments sound like a great book and I am going to try get my hands on this one too!! Thanks! - but it is not the book as in the book I read so long ago, there was no time travel, it was two teenagers falling for each other but unable to be with each other because of social class, and then theres the issue of the dead wife ghost as well.

Samina Aziz | 43 comments I read Mariana which was lovely by the way - but it is not the book I wanted - it is similar - my book is possibly inspired from this one as Mariana is quite an old book and the book I am looking for it about 15-17 years and it about teenagers, there is also a malevolent spirit too.

CLM | 311 comments Could it be by Ruth M. Arthur? I will take a look at my shelf and consider. She often has a modern day and a historical couple and in A Candle in Her Room there is certainly a malevolent spirit although I don't recall an artist in that one. She is a favorite author of mine but I have not done a complete reread for a long time.

Hi thanks for the suggestion. this does not sound like my book which I believe was published about 20 years after the one you suggested in the early 2000s. Sounds interesting though!

Hi thanks for the suggestion, it definitely is not this one, my book is about 20 years old now! I have read this, it is similar but very different. Thank you though!

Samina Aziz | 43 comments Lsophia wrote: "This sounds like Green Darkness by Anya Seton. Except the couple was married and not teenagers."
This sounds VERY like my book, but Anya Seton is not usually a YA author. I will read this and let you know. Thanks so much!

@Samina - I'm sorry then, I have no idea. Have you tried typing in 'reincarnation' into the Goodreads search engine? Or perhaps into google? There is also Fallen, by Lauren Kate, which I've heard is about reincarnation in a sense, however it is probably too new?

Fallen (Fallen, #1) by Lauren Kate

Samina Aziz | 43 comments bump!
Also the |Fallen is too recent for the book I am thinking about - I read it around 2002-03 or even earlier

Samina Aziz | 43 comments Ayshe wrote: "The Knot Garden by Gabriel King maybe?"

This sounds more like my book than any of the suggestions have so far. I am going to read it to see if it is my book as I am fairly certain that my book was about teenagers so this may not be the one I am looking for.
That said, the story sounds like the one I have been searching for, and the date published is about the time I read this. Thank you!

Here's the Google Books preview of The Knot Garden - https://books.google.com/books?id=jBc... - Ayshe's suggestion

Samina Aziz | 43 comments oh ok that's not the book then. It's far too descriptive and this one seems to strongly involve cats whereas the book I read didn't.

Ονι | 10 comments Samina... was by any chance the ghost in the cottage a seamstress? The book I've been searching for sounds exactly the same as yours, The guy dies because he ant endure the wife who is way older than him. The girl was a seamstress , the wife's ghost tries to keep them apart in the modern times too?

Samina Aziz | 43 comments Yes!! She was a seamstress!! The reincarnated version is an artist I think!
