Amanda, I've only read one other Faulkner book (The Sound and the Fury), but I've been salivating over Light in August for months.

I have The Big Sleep on my TBR too. I just couldn't fit it into my challenge.

Nice list!! The Stand is my favorite SK novel. I hope you have a great year of reading!

I love your seriously old school pics and want to check those out. And The Stand is also my favorite SK. I read it sooo long ago and someday want to reread it. Enjoy!

Melanti, I've been trying to get the The Big Sleep for a long while. I figured that putting it on this challenge would force me to finally get to it.

I've heard so many good things about The Stand. I can't wait to read it!

I love your Mythology theme for 1899 and earlier! All three of those are on my TBR. I might have to borrow this idea!

I seem to be going backward with this. I've finished an alternate. Whoops!

I've finally finished Winesburg, Ohio. I've wanted to read this for a long time, and I'm glad I did. Both Hemingway and Faulkner held this book in high esteem, and I can see why. I truly appreciate what Anderson was doing. Certain stories were moments of greatness, and I can see his influence in many writers I love. BUT... as a whole, the stories were hit and miss for me. I had very little connection to George Willard, who was, for all intents and purposes, the protagonist of the collection. By the time he left Winesburg, I was ready for him (and me) to go.

Still, there were moments that will stick with me. Louise Bentley's rejection of her son, the loneliness and isolation created by the townspeople themselves, the fanaticism of Jesse Bentley...

ooh, really want to read Winesburg Ohio. I'm glad you found it worth reading even though it's not a favorite. I read the Martian Chronicles earlier this year and loved it. I also read The Big Sleep this year and liked it. I see that Light in August is already nominated for August so maybe we'll all get to read it.

I've read that Ray Bradbury was inspired by Winesburg, OH when he wrote the Martian Chronicles.

I was excited to see Light in August was nominated!
