The author of Bounty here... first off, thank you for selecting my debut novel for Book of the Month! Secondly, everyone who has started reading it or will soon... I hope you enjoy. This book was a labor of love dating back almost 20 years, and I'm proud of it.
And if anyone's interested after finishing Bounty, there are two other novels and a short story in the series currently published (all on my Goodreads page). Other future books in the series are in the works.

When I first created this character back in 1997 (geez, it's been that long?!), there was a bounty hunter aspect to her character. That aspect's kinda gone away over the years (though I may revisit it sometime in the future), but the name stuck -- partly because every time I tried to brainstorm another name, I came up empty. So it went from a name Jill had come up for herself to something someone else had coined for her that she just went with.

Nice! I'm definitely digging the comic book feel to the story so far :)

I try to keep the city as realistic as possible, partly because -- as you mentioned -- it can as much of a character as the characters themselves. I always keep a map of the city handy while writing, so I can nail down locations and settings and street and building names. The fact that I set these stories in a real-life location, it's a responsibility of sorts to be accurate. I very much have a love-hate relationship with the city, and hopefully that comes through, not just in Bounty, but in the other books as well (particularly the third book, Behind the Badge).

Jill Andersen is one of Baltimore’s best and brightest detectives, but she harbors a dark secret — a secret that threatens to come out when the body of Dr. Trent Roberts is pulled out of the Chesapeake Bay. Dr. Roberts’ connection to Jill reveals a past that involves a tour in Iraq, a secretive cybernetic experiment, and a conspiracy that involves a native son.
Can Jill solve the case while still keeping her secret? Will her partners at the Seventh Precinct find out what she’s so desperate to hide? What was Dr. Roberts looking into that led to his murder? And perhaps the biggest question of all………Who is Bounty? https://thebookofthemonth.wordpress.c...
